St Pat's News

July 15, 2020

At St Patrick’s Parish Primary School we hold the care, safety and wellbeing of children and young people as a central and fundamental responsibility of our school.

From The RE Leader - Annie Forrest

From The Principal - Peter Sanderson

Dear Parents, Parishioners, Carers, Staff & Students,

Welcome back to what we hope will be a relatively straightforward term. Having said that, we are daily receiving updates on the COVID-19 pandemic and I will inform you of any changes to our current situation.

Condolences

Our sincerest condolences to the Smith family, Barry, Fiona, Madison, Liam and Jacob (Year 3), on the passing of Barry’s father.

Welcome

We say welcome to two new students this term. Alex Harris (Yr 1) has joined the 1/2CR class and Fionn Lucardie (Yr 6) has joined the 5/6B class. We welcome Alex and Fionn and their families to our school community.

COVID-19 Restrictions

The following processes and protocols remain in place this term.

  • Access to the school limited to essential staff and services

  • Enhanced cleaning of high contact surfaces throughout the school day and at the end of the day

  • Restricted movement of students between classes

  • School staff observing physical distancing

  • Practising good hand hygiene with students washing their hands before and after each learning block and before and after eating

  • Cancellation of all off-site activities such as camps, excursions and sporting activities

  • Staggered dismissal to avoid large gatherings of adults at the front of the school.

Sick Students

Parents and carers are reminded that if children are ill, they are to be kept at home. If they are displaying cold and flu-like symptoms, they are not to return to school until all symptoms have abated.

Triple P - Positive Parenting Program

Triple P online is now available for free to all Victorian families. The Victorian Government has funded the online Triple P – Positive Parenting Program for all Victorian families, providing access to expert parenting advice during these challenging COVID-19 times.

Sporting Schools Program

We expect to start our Sporting Schools after school program in Week 3, Monday 27th July. The program will run on Monday and Wednesday afternoons from 3:20pm to 4:30pm and will be supervised by Tom Sell, Naomi Harman and Harry Evans. Further information appears below in this newsletter.

Australian Dental Health Van

The Australian Dental Health Van will visit St Patrick’s for the week beginning Monday 24th August. Students will have the opportunity for a full dental examination and treatment if required. Consent forms will be sent home today and will need to be returned by Wednesday 29th July.

Working Bee

We plan to have a working bee this Saturday beginning at 9:00am. Those families rostered on have been contacted and those who can attend will be observing COVID-19 protocols.

Traffic Movement

There are often near misses out in front of the school at drop off and pick up times. My biggest concern in relation to this is where drivers approaching from Campbell Street turn across oncoming traffic to access a park in front of the school. Drivers reversing from car parks are focussed on what is behind them and are not always aware that this manoeuvre is happening. I urge parents to take care.

Kind regards,

Peter Sanderson
