Term 1 Week 8: Monday 14th March 2022

Principal's Message

I hope you are all as well as can be expected. We are experiencing quite an increase in covid cases and urge everyone to continue to work towards keeping our community safe. Please remain informed by checking in with any updates through NSW Health.

As far as school news goes there is a lot to follow so I will be brief. However I would like to inform you that I did meet with our architect and facilities personnel from CEDP about our carpark issues. A meeting with a traffic related engineer firm is being scheduled and I will keep you informed as this progresses. In the meantime, I remind everyone that walking through the lower carpark area is completely unsafe and to be avoided at all costs. Safe parking is available in the top carpark where parents can escort their children down and up the augmented stairway. Kiss and Drop in the morning is an essential provision that everyone should use to keep their kids safe. In a time where the importance of personal responsibility has been reinforced by the need to adopt safe practices to avoid covid we should all be acutely attuned to our carpark responsibilities as well.

With appreciation for your ongoing support,

Stephen Dowd

Principal

Religious Education Coordinators' Message

Catholic Education, Diocese of Parramatta, have purchased a Lenten Program from the Diocese of Wollongong. Most Rev Brian G Mascord DD, Bishop of Wollongong writes:

"Here we are again, returning to the Lenten cycle, this time from the Lucan point of view. St Luke, throughout his Gospel, calls the disciple to identify with Jesus. He points out to us that Jesus is open and caring to those who are on the edge of society—the outcast, the widow and orphan. He recognises that we have, as we do, a dependence on God. Luke also challenges those who are proud and self-righteous. He calls the disciple to recognise the compassion and mercy of God present in every situation of our living. He calls the disciple to recognise the presence of God all around us.

I hope that these daily reflections that walk alongside the major themes of our Lenten Sunday Gospels of Luke will help us focus on getting to know the compassion and mercy of God through Jesus—both personally, and as communities—helping us to reconnect with ourselves as members of the body of Christ.

Our real purpose in faith is to make Jesus known and loved throughout the world, but to do that, we have to reconnect with him. I hope and pray that our Lenten journey will be one where we reconnect and reinvigorate our call to go out and make disciples. To do that, we must first encounter Jesus and know him so that we can make him known to others by the lives we live. This is not an easy thing to do, but as we reflect upon the grace given to us by God, all things are possible."

I hope you can use this resource as part of your Lenten journey this year. They will continue to be a part of our newsletters as we make our way through Lent.

Yours in Christ,

Mrs. Helen Moore

Australian Government Assistance for National Capital Excursion

Last week, students from Year 6 at Mary Immaculate participated in an educational tour of Canberra. While on this excursion they experienced a variety of educational programs focused on Australia’s history, culture, heritage and democracy.

The Australian Government recognises the importance of all young Australians being able to visit their National Capital as part of their civics and citizenship education. To assist parents in meeting the cost of the excursion, the Australian Government will be contributing funding of $30 per eligible student under the Parliament and Civics Education Rebate program toward any travel expenses incurred. The contribution is paid directly to the school upon completion of the excursion.

We would like to thank the Australian Government for their support of this program. We know that the excursion was a rewarding experience for all of our students.
