Welcome back to Term 3, Week 2. I hope this newsletter finds you safe and well.
I trust that the holiday period was restful and a chance to reset ready for another big term of learning.
As we begin Term 3, it is important to keep in mind that unfortunately Covid-19 is still very much impacting us as a society and distancing measures must still remain in place for everyone’s safety. In order to do this, I remind you that Kindergarten to year 2 are to finish at 2:45 pm and are picked up from the top gates near the SaCC centre, we ask that if you are not waiting for any other children, to please leave the area immediately to avoid congestion. All other students will be dismissed at 3:00 pm, the bottom gates near the cricket nets. Unit classes will also use these gates. It is imperative to please make sure that you remain 1.5 metres apart whilst waiting for your children, and please keep an eye out for any younger children as there is a lot of traffic at this time.
As I am sure you would have noticed, the maintenance work around the school grounds is still on-going and will be for a number of weeks to come. The main entrance to the school is currently inaccessible due to the car park resurfacing and upcoming installation of electric gates. Therefore entry is only through either the top gate near the SaCC centre, bottom gate near where the bus stops, or the rear gates. There are a number of clear signs along the way, please encourage your children to follow them safely onto the school grounds. At this stage, parents/carers or any non-essential adults are still not permitted within the school grounds due to Department directives. We will update you if this changes.
On the topic of maintenance work, the basketball courts are having new soft-fall material laid and should (weather permitting) be ready for use by the end of week 2. We have been lucky enough to have some new carpet laid in some classrooms as well as some storerooms re-painted. Whilst the student’s toilets near the canteen are now complete and are looking fantastic. Lastly, the support classrooms are also in the process of getting new soft-fall material laid, and new bathrooms. We as a school appreciate the hard work being done to update the facilities and your patience with the process.
Whilst it seems there is still a lot of restrictions around what can or can’t be done in regards to events at the moment, it is exciting to be able to look forward with optimism to the school athletics carnival. This is being held at Mingara Athletics track next Friday, the 7th August, 2020. Students will be travelling there and back via bus, and that along with entry is covered by the book pack purchases made earlier in Term 1.
If your child did not purchase a book pack, payment for entry/bus will be required. As a reminder also, please ensure that permission notes are back as soon as possible. There will be NO parents permitted on the grounds of Mingara Athletics track, once again due to the Health guidelines provided by Mingara. Please understand that you will not be allowed on the track, we understand that you like to be there to support your children but unfortunately this cannot happen this year. I’m sure that we can agree though that we are still grateful that this event can still proceed in some capacity.
On a positive note however, there will now be a sausage sizzle on the day as organised by the wonderful school canteen. The cost will be $3.50 with order forms already distributed. These forms must be completed and returned directly to the canteen by Tuesday the 4th August, 2020. NO late orders can be accepted unfortunately. Alternatively, children can bring their own lunch from home. The canteen at Mingara will also be in operation selling drinks and snacks etc. for your convenience.
As this newsletter goes to publish the advice on the Stage 3 Broken Bay camp remains the same, as ‘on hold’. Any further updates on its status will be communicated immediately. The same advice stands for Kindergarten 2021 orientation and further information will be shared as it comes to hand, please contact the front office for enrolment forms for 2021 however.
We have managed to be able to re-start Breakfast Club, operating out of the canteen of a morning. Whilst we are limited with what we can offer there are some light options on hand for hungry tummies, to help start the day right. This is staffed by school support officers.
In addition to this, it has come to our attention that our school canteen has been Government approved again for its fantastic choices of foods on offer as a part of the Great Healthy School Canteen initiatives. Well done Wyong Public School for being the first school on the coast to receive its second menu accreditation.
We as a school are also proud to announce our involvement in National Tree Day in conjunction with Brian Hilton Motor Group. We will be helping the future environment by planting some new plants on the school grounds.
Finally, School Reports are on track to be distributed by end of Week 3. We look forward to being able to give you valuable feedback on the progress of your children’s learning. Once again if a teacher requires an interview with you to discuss report you will be contacted and invited to come for an appointment.
Thanks again for your continued support.
