PRINCIPAL’S THOUGHTS

Messages from Mr Dill

2023 Prefects

Congratulations to the following students who this week were elected as prefects for 2023 namely: Amber Worden, Sonia Le, Daisy Henwood, Indiana Brown, Gabriella Buckman, Ned Lea, Triet Nguyen,  Liam Pavendranathan, Leo Goldsworthy & Sam Bains.

This followed a lengthy process involving establishing the criteria for nominations by executive staff, nomination by peers, review of nominations by executive and staff, shortlisting by Year 5 peers, presentation of speeches by candidates, participation in the leadership preparation program, voting through secret ballot online by students and teachers and oversight of the process by Assistant Principal, Orla Page.

School prefects will be inducted at the special assembly on Tuesday 22nd November.

I would like to convey how proud we are of all of our senior students who stood for prefect. All candidates fulfilled our strict criteria and have demonstrated considerable leadership potential during this process and throughout their time at Drummoyne Public School.

Student leadership roles now being offered include: sports house captain, sports vice captain, student librarian, technology leaders, environment leader, student representative council (SRC), peer support leader, class buddies and other leadership roles next year.

OC Success

Congratulations to all of our Year 4 students who recently sat for the Opportunity Class (OC) placement test. Two of our Year 4 students have received offers to the opportunity class at Balmain Public School namely: Zeeva Young and Asher Barbic from class 4M.  In addition, four students are on reserve for placements in an OC if places become available, namely: Aojun Zheng, Gemma Kim, Alex McDonald and Theo Kav.

The installation of new synthetic grass over the primary playground is planned for December. The upgrade is being funded by the Department of Education with the tendering process finishing next week.

FROM THE DEPUTY'S DESK

Student Learning Partners

In the coming weeks we will be asking students in Kindergarten to Year 5 to indicate 4 students they would work well with next year.

In forming classes, teachers will try to include 2 to 3 student choices in each class. This is to support students in the initial stages of transitioning to new classes next year. Even so, we are wanting students to have the opportunity to develop the skills to make new friends and to work with different learning partners each year and in doing this build their confidence and resilience.

Tell Them From Me Parent Feedback Survey - Closing date extended

Have your say!

Please click on the link below to have your say on all things Drummoyne, including feedback on how we can improve the school.

We would appreciate as many of you as possible completing the survey by Friday 18 November.

Nude Food Days every Wednesday @ DPS

The SRC will be holding a Nude Food day on Wednesdays in Term 4.

Simply put, it’s food without excess packaging. Usually, this means food that is not processed, often making it a healthier and more environmentally friendly option. It could include food packed in containers or wrapped with reusable wrapping.

Students with 'nude food' will receive a token towards becoming the champion class.

ALL THINGS SPORTY

Year 2 Swim Scheme is underway!

We were all excited and a bit nervous about swimming this week. We didn't know what to expect! Once we were down at the pool, we met our instructors and jumped in! The water was a little cool but once we got moving, we didn't notice the cold anymore until it was time to get out....brrrrrr.

We can't wait to go again!

A new application will need to be submitted if they are applying for the first time, or if they are requesting an additional travel entitlement as a result of a new shared parental responsibility situation (e.g. joint custody). Students who change address, school, campus location, have repeated a year or received an expiry notification from Transport for NSW for their school travel entitlement should renew or update their details before the end of term 4.
