St Pat's News

October 9, 2019

At St Patrick’s Parish Primary School we hold the care, safety and wellbeing of children and young people as a central and fundamental responsibility of our school.

From The RE Leader - Peter Sanderson

October is World Mission Month. During this month we place special focus on what we can do to help others, especially those in need. Together we pray:

Lord God,

At the beginning of this new term teach us to be your hands and feet.

At the beginning of this new term teach us to love as you love us.

At the beginning of this new term teach us to pray for those in need.

So that You are honoured and glorified.

Mission Activities

This year, Catholic Mission have asked us to support their work in Ghana. They have identified the month of October as “Socktober”, building on the Pope’s recent initiative: “Sport at the Service of Humanity”. Our Mini Vinnies group will be running a Mission Day on Tuesday 22nd October. On this day we are asking that each student bring a gold coin donation to go towards the work of Catholic Mission. Each class will be invited to participate in some soccer activities in which they will be using “sockballs” made from recycled materials, similar to what the children in Ghana would use. You can read about the work of Catholic Mission via this link.

Families are most welcome to make a donation to Catholic Mission on top of the gold coin on Mission Day by placing your donation in an envelope marked Catholic mission and leaving it at the school office.

From The Principal - Sue Paulka

Dear Parents, Parishioners, Carers, Staff & Students,

Welcome back to Term 4! It’s a busy start to the term with final preparations in full swing for our Spring Fair this Sunday. The success of the Fair relies on every family helping out, so thank you to those families that have made this a priority. Thank you also to those families that are unable to help on the day but have offered their assistance in other ways.

Please remember to get raffle items to school by tomorrow or Friday at the latest. Items for the various stalls (e.g. secondhand books and toys, cakes, sweets etc.) can be dropped at school on Friday or Saturday morning, or brought with you on Sunday.

Working Bee

Our Term 4 working bee will be held this Saturday October 12th. As well as our normal working bee jobs, there will also be numerous Fair preparations to undertake. No Parking at the School Crossing

In an effort to improve child safety in and around the school crossing, the Moyne Shire has erected a number of "No Standing" signs near the crossing, which means no parking is permitted in the area between the signs. Please be mindful of this when dropping off and picking up your children so that you are not fined.

The office is open from 8.30am - 4.00pm each day.

There is no supervision for students before 8.40am. Teachers use the time prior to the doors opening for setting up for the day, therefore they are not available to supervise students. Students who arrive at school prior to 8.40am need to wait at the side door near the hall until the doors are opened.

The bell for the start of the day rings at 8.55am, any student arriving after this time needs to be signed in using the iPad at the office.

The bell for the end of the day rings at 3.20pm. If for any reason you are going to be later than 3.30pm to collect your child/children, please contact the school office.

Spring Music Festival Choir

Once again our students have been provided with some exceptional music tuition in their preparation for their performance with the Spring Music Festival. During the school holidays our students, and students from the Consolidated School, were treated to professional singing lessons as they learnt and rehearsed their parts of the Spring Music Festival’s opening gala event  - ‘In the Beginning’. Their gifted voice instructor was Dermot Tutty. Dermot is a respected voice teacher, choral conductor, stage director and composer. As a young boy, Dermot was a gifted soloist with the National Boys Choir of Australia. He performed several principal treble roles with The Australian Opera Company and the Victoria State Opera. Dermot teaches singing at Melbourne Grammar School, and works as a choral conductor and voice teacher at The King David School and the Victorian College of the Arts Secondary School. Dermot runs a highly successful private voice studio. His students have won national and international competitions, including the Herald Sun Aria Competition and the Meistersinger Vocal Competition in Graz, Austria. He has tutored numerous treble soloists for roles with Opera Australia and Victorian Opera. Specialising in classical voice, Dermot has also taught international rock stars and musical theatre performers. Our students feel very privileged to have a man as talented as Dermot working with them.
