Term 3 Week 8: 5th - 9th September 2022

Principal's Blog

Welcome to Week 8 Term 3

Last Wednesday we welcomed into our school our Kindergarten children and parents for 2023. It was wonderful to meet new parents and students in a relaxed setting. More information will be forwarded shortly about our interview process to commence next term.

Make My Day

During our Teddy Bear’s Picnic our new students were invited to have their photo taken as a momentum for the day. Mrs Chensee organised a green screen and back drop photo. Tamsyn, Georgie, Grace and Ocea from 5/6P took and edited the photos and recorded names and email addresses for distribution. Thank you girls, you were amazing ambassadors for our school demonstrating to our new parents what wonderful students we have at Caves Beach PS

Bailey Seamer

Tomorrow Tuesday 6th September, we have invited an ex-student and local girl Bailey Seamer back to Caves Beach PS. to speak to our students. Bailey is currently in Caves Beach on her way through on her 5000km walk from Wilson's Promontory to Cape York Peninsula. Her walk is to raise awareness for Mental Health and raise money for the Black Dog Institute.

We will be holding a fundraiser in support of Bailey called “Fill Your Brain with Gold! “, We will have a Grow Your Mind brain drawn on the playground and the kids can fill it with their gold coin donations.

Students are asked to come in a colour that makes them happy.

Reminder - Drop Off Zone

Thank you to all parents who have been using our DROP OFF ZONE correctly and safely. To ensure these zones operate effectively and safely for all children and parents please remember the following:

DO NOT alight from your vehicle whilst in the DROP OFF ZONE. If you wish/need to assist your children from the car &/or escort them to the school gate in the morning, you must park in the parking area opposite the school and use the top crossing to enter the school grounds. The Drop Off zone must be allowed to always flow freely, so cars must move to the end of the zone to allow children to exit their vehicle. Children can enter the school using either the shelter gate or main school gate.

Friday Assemblies

It is wonderful to see parents now able to enter school grounds to attend our Friday school assemblies to see the class presenting the assembly and item. If parents are wishing to take their child after the assembly is finished before the dismissal bell, they must report to the school office to have their child signed out. They are to remain at the office and wait for their child to come from class. These processes are in place for the safety of all students.

Enrolments

We have begun to plan class structures for 2023. Thank you to those parents who have already let us know their plans for next year as this information is vital with student numbers directly affecting staffing and class structures. If you will not be returning to Caves Beach PS next year or have a Kindergarten child starting in 2023 and are yet to advise us, please contact our school office immediately. Also, if you know of families within our school zone that are intending to enrol, please ask them to contact our school office now on 49711838.

Check in Assessment for Years 3, 4, 5 and 6

Dear parents and carers,

During Term 3 and Term 4 students will participate in the Check-in assessment.

The Check-in assessment is a NSW Department of Education online literacy and numeracy assessment available to support schools to assess and monitor student learning.

The assessment can supplement existing school practices to identify how students are performing in literacy and numeracy and to help teachers tailor their teaching more specifically to student needs. Students with a disability may receive the same level of support during the assessment they would normally receive in the classroom.

  • The assessment will be scheduled for our Year 6 students during Term 3, Weeks 8 - 10.
  • The assessment will be scheduled for our Year 3, 4 and 5 students during Term 4 Weeks 1 – 4.
  • All students complete a reading assessment and a numeracy assessment. Year 6 students will also complete a writing task

Digital Technology

This term in Digital Technology, Stage 1 students have been exploring coding and creating using Lego. The ‘Lego We-Do’ kits encourage students to use their computational thinking skills to create various Lego objects that are used and designed for a specific purpose.

Stage 1 students are currently creating a Science Rover that detects movement with a motion sensor and are learning to code simple sequences to make the Science Rover move. In this topic, students are encouraged to question, explore, and create and use their ICT skills to explore the process of testing and debugging programs and coding sequences.

Grow Your Mind

Another strength you can grow is CREATIVITY.

Being creative means to think of new ways to do things in the classroom, on the playground or at home.

When we show CREATIVITY we use our ELEPHANT and WISE OWL. This strength is important for our mental health because it helps us find our state of ‘flow’.

You can display CREATIVITY by:

  • thinking of multiple ways to solve a problem
  • making up interesting games and exploring different ways to play them
  • writing or drawing something that is unique, just like you
  • starting a new creative activity like singing in the choir, playing a musical instrument or performing in drama

"Creativity doesn't wait for that perfect moment. It creates its own perfect moments out of ordinary ones."

Ordering Uniforms

The Uniform Shop operates online all year round – orders placed via QKR will be delivered to classrooms throughout the week.  Alternatively, you can request that orders are left at the office for you to collect.

If your uniforms are too big/too small, please email us and let us know - we can arrange an exchange to ensure that you have the right ones.  Or if you have ANY questions regarding uniforms prior to ordering - please let us know via email and we are happy to help! cavesuniformshop@gmail.com

Uniform Shop – TERM 4 OPENING HOURS

We will be reopening the School Uniform Shop on site for Term 4 2022 – on Wednesday mornings from 8:45am – 9:30am.  This is mainly to assist our new Kindy families with planning their uniform needs – but all families are welcome!

Price Increase

Our Uniform Suppliers have passed on a number of price increases in the past 2 years which we avoided passing on to our families.  However, with a further price rise we have reviewed all prices and there are some changes to come into effect from Term 4 2022.

There is some good news to go with this – we have negotiated a price DROP for our sport shirts so they will actually reduce in price!!

Our school uniform range is still great value and we are significantly cheaper than other retailers on comparable items – eg. our school polos will be $30 from Term 4 whilst Lowes are selling them for $39.

To Order Uniforms

Place your order via the Qkr! App (quick, simple & our preferred option)

**You can link a credit card or debit card to the Qkr! App

If you need an order form to order/pay via direct deposit OR have ANY questions regarding uniforms prior to ordering - please let us know via email and we are happy to help! cavesuniformshop@gmail.com

If your uniforms are too big/too small, please email us and let us know - we can arrange an exchange to ensure that you have the right ones.
