June 23, 2022 - Term 2 Week 9

Acknowledgement of Country

From the Principal

Principal's Pen

Dear Parents and Community members,

As our School term comes to a close, it is important to reflect on the term we have had.  I applaud all staff, students and parents for their continued efforts in supporting our school with getting back to "normal".  This term some things that returned included our Assemblies with parents in attendance, the student House activities to celebrate our value for the term and Buddy classes- sharing reading experiences and learning opportunities.

In getting back to normal it is with much excitement that this term we will also be welcoming our new chaplain Obang (pronounced Obung).  He has experience in working across other primary schools and we look forward to the school community getting to know him.  He will be at our school on Wednesdays and Fridays for 2022.

We finish this term on a high and celebrate our Cross Country Carnival this Friday morning, where students will participate to gain points for their house and running to improve their personal best.  As well as our culminating event for our Winter sports fixtures, the last week will see our school compete against 7 other local schools at Kingsway Sporting complex on Thursday, June 30, playing Soccer, Volleyball, AFL and Netball.  We wish our teams all the best!  Go Glengarry!

Semester 1 student reports will be available next Monday, June 27 after 3.00pm.  Parents will receive an email with a link directly to connect to access the Student reports.

Finally, a reminder that school returns for students on Tuesday, July 19 as our staff will be participating in Professional Learning to support our Business and Operational Plan targets.

This award was proudly presented to Miss Stephens for demonstrating the "Aussie of the Month" program key principals in her role as soccer coach.  Principles demonstrated are inclusion, respect and mateship.

Has your child lost something?

Everyone loses things now and then, however the Lost Property boxes are overflowing with unnamed jumpers, jackets, shirts, hats and drink bottles.  When students lose something, they can go to the Makuru block wet area, near room 2, and look for the item in the Lost and Found.

Putting names on jackets, hats, and other personal possessions will make it easy to return them to students.  Items that are not needed for school, especially valuable ones, are best left at home.

Please note; all items remaining in the Lost Property boxes on the last day of this term will be disposed of.

Around Glengarry

PJ Day

Staff and students enjoyed wearing their warm and comfy PJs to school yesterday.

An astonishing $438.00 was raised in support of our school charity, Kids Cancer Support Group.

Thank you for donating to this worthy cause.

SES Incursion

Today volunteers Christelle, Maddie and James from the Joondalup SES branch visited room 11. The students were exposed to a wealth of information about who the SES are, what they aim to achieve and how they endeavour to help in our community. In line with our studies in Civics and Citizenship, students will soon begin presenting researched information about one of the many volunteer agencies in greater WA.

Winter Sport Reports

Glengarry PS v Poynter PS: Friday, June 10

Volleyball A

Poynter proved to be a tough team, however Owen was always cheering his teammates and was very good at serving, catching and digging.  The final score was Glengarry 0 and Poynter 3.

Sara & Moana

Volleyball B

Our team played really well and won all the games against Poynter.  Our best player was Caitlin because she did really good serves and hit the ball over the net cleanly.

Anushka & Layla

Football

We won by 35 points, Glengarry 74 and Poynter 39.  Sam was our best player because every time he kicked the ball it went far and hard.

Daniel

Soccer

Nathan was our best team player with his accurate passes and moving the ball to the other side quickly.  The game ended with Glengary on 0 goals and Poynter 5 goals.

Sahaj & Owen

Netball A

We had a big win with Glengarry scoring 30 goals and Poynter with 14 goals.  Citie was a very good centre and spacing out, and Eva was good at sneaking around her players and defending.

Teisha

Netball B

This was an exciting game with the final result a draw, 12 to 12.  Laila and Immy both got in there and played to the best of their abilities.

Alisa

Calisthenics State Team Representative

Ella has been selected in the Calisthenics Association of Western Australia’s (CAWA) State Team to compete in the Australian Calisthenic Federation’s Livestreamed National Championships this month.

Congratulations on your success Ella.  We wish you all the best at the Championships.

Health and Hygiene

Is your child feeling unwell?

If your child is unwell with cold and flu symptoms, please keep them at home and consider checking in with your GP if symptoms don't resolve

Healthy WA also recommends seeking a COVID test for cold and flu symptoms.  See links below for more info.

Department of Health LINK

DoE LINK

As directed by our guidelines, we will ask for your child to be collected if they are displaying cold symptoms such as a cough, runny nose, fever etc.

We have a student at school who is immunocompromised.  This means they can potentially become gravely ill even when contracting a common cold/virus.  Please be mindful of sending students to school when they are unwell, as they may spread their infection.  Please speak with your GP/health professional and see the information in the links above re: advice about keeping your child at home when unwell.

Chaplain's Chat

My name is Obang Girma, I love children, I am a father of four including twins. I am passionate about working in a school environment where I can be part of the children’s journey. I’m excited to be working as a chaplain both in Glengarry Primary School and Warriapendi Primary School.

Before my new role as a School Chaplain, I worked with the Edmund Rice Centre, Mirrabooka where I had the opportunity to experience helping social workers in schools such as Koondoola and Thornlie with a variety of roles including Outside School Hours’ Care (OSHC).  I also worked at YMCA WA as an OSHC Educator and at different schools such as St Denis, Joan Watters and Lake Gwelup before I commenced my new role as chaplain.  I am looking forward to working in harmony with all the staff, students and parents in my two new schools.
