Mount Ousley Public School News

A small school with big opportunities.

Term 4 Week 3 2020, Friday 30 Oct.

Principal's Report

What an amazing and busy start we have had to the term!

Today we celebrate the teachers of our school for World Teachers' Day. I would like to thank all the teachers at our school for their outstanding commitment to the students, families and community of Mount Ousley Public School. I am sure the community would join with me in congratulating all of our teaching staff for the amazing learning experiences they provide in a nurturing and caring learning environment. This year has seen us overcome many challenges and the staff at MOPS have demonstrated just how dedicated they are to ensuring that all students remained connected to our school and to their learning. I feel privileged to be part of such an amazing group of educators. So today I would ask that teachers congratulate each other and students and their families take a moment to pause and reflect on the outstanding job that our teachers do, each and every day. THANK YOU teachers!

Over the past 2 weeks we have enjoyed the return of a number of parent volunteers to reading groups across the school. Thank you to all our volunteers, we look forward to these and other programs growing as restrictions continue to ease.

Reminders:

As the weather warms up it is extremely important that all students are wearing either a school wide brim or bucket hat that is clearly labelled with their name. Bringing a water bottle that is able to be refilled throughout the day will also help your child to stay cool and well hydrated.

Please keep us up to date with explanations if your child is away from school. A skoolbag, SeeSaw or phone message, even a written note are all ways you can let us know why your child/ren have been away.

MOPS Mega Book Swap

Thank you to everyone who supported the MOPS Mega Book Swap last week. We were overwhelmed by the generous book donations and support. The MOPS First Nations team raised $264.60 for the Indigenous Literacy Foundation, helping to empower some of the most disadvantaged and isolated students in Australia. We are very proud of the empathy and passion the team showed in helping all Australian children have access to quality literacy. We hope everyone enjoys their new books!

Book Week

Book Week was an amazing success with students engaging in a wide number of fun and exciting lessons based on quality picture books from our library. Students worked with a variety of teachers to explore books and demonstrate their understandings in creative and fun ways.

The costumes that students and staff created and wore throughout the day made this celebration of literature even more fun. A huge thank you goes to Mrs Hamers for her organisation of the day. Mrs Hamers was also the creative mind behind the filming of students to create a video so our day could be shared with the community. NAPLAN Online

Our school has been selected to participate in NAPLAN online in 2021. To prepare for this transition we are required to install a new App to each of the devices to be used for the assessment and to provide opportunities for students to interact with it, this term. If your child utilises a school device they will automatically be loaded with the app, if your child brings their personal device to school and are in year 2 or year 4, we need your help. Could you please download the NAPLAN Browser app using the link below by Wednesday 4th November so we are able to ensure all students have the app and are able to participate in the practice sessions. Thank you for your assistance.

Kindergarten Orientation

We are very please to announce that we are able to put plans in place for Kindergarten Orientation. This year we will be holding 3 sessions where students can come and explore our school, meet their buddies and find out about all the wonderful things that we have in store for them next year. In previous years this has been coupled with a parent information session held in the library, this is unable to go ahead this year. Instead we will have a short parent meeting on the basketball court where there will be an opportunity to meet the principal, gather information packs and ask a few questions. This is limited to 15 minutes due to current restrictions. All families are asked to enter via the McGrath Street gate where our student leader will meet you and guide you to the basketball court. The sessions will run from 9:30am - 11:30am on Friday 6th, 13th and 20th of November.

Canteen News

Our Canteen has reopened and the students are very excited about ordering their lunch.

As with most things this year, there is a slight change to the way in which lunches are delivered to students. So that there is not a large crowd of students congregating in the canteen area, all lunches will be picked up by the class canteen helpers and taken to classrooms for eating time. To assist in making this a smooth process we are asking that the class name is clearly written on each lunch order bag. before they are dropped off at the canteen.

Canteen will continue to operate on Monday, Wednesday and Friday of each week. Remember it does rely on parent helpers, so don't be shy, and donate a few hours a week to ensure our canteen can remain open.

Please contact Amanda Lawler on 0410587499 to lock in a day.
