Dear parents and carers,

Our year 8 class sat their National Exams throughout this past week. We thank the LIS and STM teachers for their hard work in preparing the students. The students are congratulated on their behaviour and presentation throughout the exam period.  Thanks also to Mr Gerard Zongi from Sekunkun who was our external invigilator.

Year 10 and 8 National Exam Marking

Our National Exams coordinator, Ms Patricia Yip, will attend year 10 exam marking in Kavieng next week, and Mr Takaundo the following week for year 8, representing Lihir International School.

2023 Classes

I am currently organising classes for the 2023 school year. If you know your child / children will not be attending Lihir International School in 2023, and you have not yet informed me, please let me know as soon as possible, so that year level numbers and class organisation can be finalised. 2023 classes will be announced in week 9.

Awards Night

In the last week of this term, on Wednesday the 30th of November, the school will host its Awards Night. The evening will consist of various awards for each class and feature class concert items. Further information regarding the Awards Night will be disseminated in coming weeks.

Rugby League Clinics and Gala Day

On Friday, the 11th November, we are having a guest coach come to the school to hold Rugby League clinics for students from Prep to Year 9. Permission notes will be sent home with students to allow students to participate in these clinics. Following this, students from the high school and upper primary will have the opportunity to participate in a Gala Day with other schools from around the island. The Gala Day will be held on Saturday, the 12th November.

Please make an appointment to see the principal if you have any concerns or queries.

Under 8s Activity Morning

It was great to see so many parents in attendance at last Wednesday's activity morning for our Early Years classes. There was a wide range of fun and interesting activities and the students looked like they were having a great time.

Thanks to Ms Saua, Ms Dovaston and Mrs Collins for organising this special event and to all who helped with the setting up and supervision of activities, including our teacher aids and year 9 students.

High School Assessment Schedules

All high school students should have received a copy of their assessment schedule for this term. Year 7 and 9 classes are well underway with their units of learning whilst our year 8 students have been focusing on exam preparation over the past three weeks. We ask that parents monitor when exams are scheduled and assessment tasks are due.

Kind regards,

Ms Cathy Langusch

From the Deputy Principal (STM)

We are in the process of shortlisting Work Ready Program candidates for the next program which will commence next January. In the coming weeks, we will interview those shortlisted and make final selection so trainees can be onboarded ready for the next program which will take place at the end January 2023.

Last week we had some of our FODE students sit their Grade 10 exams; we hope they went well. Our FODE students and Elementary Teachers from across Lihir continue to work on their distance education with the support of our STMC Staff.

Please note the Kisim Save Library is open for use by all Newcrest Employees and Townsite Residents. Please email SchoolToMineCampus@newcrest.com.au to book a time to come.

Regards,

Mr Kevin Collins
