Principal's Column

Hello, Giinagay, Hai

What a week!

Little Whales

Due to the new changes with infection control we unfortunately need to temporarily cease our Little Whale play-based program provided by Lifetime Connect. Thanks to Shoshona and Brandon for your dedicated care and commitment to our 2021 Kindys.

Indonesian Independence Day

Our Indonesian Independence Day was an outstanding success. Thanks to our dynamic Indonesian team Pak Karl, Bu Emily, Pak Mur and Bu Nik who organised a fun filled action day with beautiful food. Thanks to all the parents and community who helped cook and clean up.

Here’s a link to the online article by Mel at the Guardian. Great photos and a really good article promoting our ‘mission’ in the local media and congrats to the whole SHPS team on such a success!

Debating

On Wednesday I had the pleasure to accompany our debating teams to Mullaway to witness the outstanding leadership shown by both schools and quality debating. Thanks to Pak Chris for the time and energy he is putting into enhancing student leadership in our school.

Athletics Carnival

When I thought it couldn’t get any better, finishing off the week with the Athletics Carnival. Each student gave it their all, with participation points at an all-time high. Flinders were the successful house on the day. Thanks to all the staff who worked all day without a break and gave there absolute all. Thanks to Uncle Ritchie and Charlie for providing a world class location and event. Thanks to all the students who displayed grace and good sportsmanship.  We are very proud of all of our students.

Then to top it all - our school Indonesian choir came first in a national singing competition. Congratulations to the choir.

Go Scotts Head PS. The little school that CAN!

Thanks, yaarri yaraang, terima kasih.

Indonesian Day - Bagus Sekal !!

What a memorable day!  Tuesday 18 August was a celebration of all things Indonesian, including a fashion parade of traditional costumes by Kinder, some beautiful Indonesian-inspired artworks by 5/6, a display of Garuda posters by 1/2 and a rotation of Indonesian games for the whole school in peer groups.

It was great to see so many people dressed up in Merah and Putih (the colours of the Indonesian flag) and wonderful to see so much enthusiasm, persistence and team work during the Indonesian games. Of course the real highlight was the amazing Indonesian lunch cooked by our fabulous team of volunteers. A huge thank you to everyone who helped prepare, cook and clean up! Terima kasih banyak!!

Below are a few photos of the day's events.

Scotts Head Singers are Winners !

We are very excited to announce that SHPS were the first place winners of the Indonesian Embassy Primary School singing competition this year! This competition was open to all primary schools across Australia, so it is a big achievement for our students to have succeeded in impressing the judges with their video of the song 'Laskar Pelangi'. I'm sure the students involved will look forward to receiving their prize when it arrives. In the meantime, they should be very proud of all the practice they put in and the high quality of their performance. Well done Tarrin, Ashlyn, Reed, Lior, Freya, Senita, Brylee, Zaki, Aiken and Sienna. Bagus sekali!!

Book Fair and Book Parade – This Friday 28 August

To celebrate Book Week (22-28 August 2020) we will be holding our annual Book Fair this year but it will be much different to previous years. Due to the current Covid-19 restrictions we are unable to have non-essential parents/carers on site. This year we will be setting up the Book Fair in the LLLC and students will fill out wish lists of the books that they like. We are aiming to take lots of photos so parents/carers don’t feel like they missed out!

We will also be holding a Book Parade where students (and staff) dress up as their favourite book character.

Forms are available at the office for parents/carers who had not completed and returned earlier this year.

Thursday is Library Day

Every student will have the opportunity to go to the library each Thursday. Please make sure your child has a library bag and brings it to school each Thursday.

School Absences during Covid

With the current Covid-19 situation, if a child is unwell they should contact a medical practice in case a Covid test is required.  If a student does have a Covid test they are unable to come back to school until results have been received.  This can be up to 3 days.   A copy of the negative result should be forwarded to the school.

Students are asked to stay at home if unwell.  If your child is unwell at school, they will be sent home.

Parents/carers need to either ring, email, use our Skoolbag app or send a note on the student's return to let the school know why their child is not at school.  The school needs to be notified every time a child is absent from school.

If a student is unwell for 3 days the child must obtain a medical certificate which should be forwarded to the school on the student's return.
