Term 2 Week 9: Monday 20th June 2022

Acting Principal's Message

Dear Parents and Carers,

I hope you enjoyed the beautiful weather over the weekend and managed to take some time out from your busy schedules to relax and have family time.

Last Thursday evening we welcomed Constable John Bollard who presented on Cyber Safety. It was extremely informative and certainly made us aware of the need to ensure we know exactly what our children are accessing. John spoke to the Year 5 and 6 students earlier in the day and will be presenting to the Year 3 and 4 students in the coming weeks. We thank John for his time and invaluable insight.

On Friday we had 40 or so Principals visit for a Network Meeting. They were very impressed as they walked through the learning spaces and spoke with our beautiful students and teachers.

Kindergarten impressed their parents with their item at Friday’s assembly. They were so excited to share their learning with their parents and special visitors. Thank you to all who attended and our Kindergarten teachers for their guidance and coordination of our students.

Friday evening was a huge success thanks to our P & F. We welcomed our Kinder and new families. There was lots of good food, music, and great company. It was wonderful to see so many people back on site. Thank you to all involved.

At the end of this week, you will be given access to your child/ren’s learning reports. These reports will be once again available through the Parent Portal on Compass. We have included in this newsletter instructions on how to access them and other features of the Compass Portal.

Last week you would have received notification on booking Student Led Conferences for Week 10. Please take the time to make an appointment. The children are looking forward to sharing their learning with you.

I look forward to seeing you at the Student Led Conferences in Week 10.

Thank you for your ongoing support,

Sharon Mizzi

Acting Religious Coordinator's Message

Congratulations to our Year 4 students who have made their First Holy Communion. Sister Valerie has beautifully prepared the children for this important sacrament. Please pray for the children preparing to make this blessed sacrament and those in our parish community in need of prayer.

Laudato Si is an encyclical call from the Pope that calls us all to embrace a new lifestyle that respects all creation. Encyclicals are important letters from the Pope that help everyone better understand how to apply the teachings of the Sacred Scripture and Catholic Social Teaching to a particular issue (in this case, the environment).

Thank you to our wonderful school community who have been busily collecting soft plastics. The containers are quickly filling, which is excellent. Not only are you reducing waste and landfills, but you are addressing the challenges and opportunities presented by the encyclical.

Thank you to the Mary Immaculate community for your support as I enter this role. I hope to continue serving the community with the same high standard Mrs Moore has.

Mrs Tara George

Acting Religious Coordinator

Counsellor's Message

The week ahead is National Refugee Week

https://www.refugeeweek.org.au/

I was struck by the beautiful words written in the blurb and I have shared them here:

“Australia and the rest of the world have a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to hit the reset button on how we behave towards one another. The importance of human connections has been underscored by the pandemic and such lessons can help us in so many ways.  Mainstream and refugee communities alike can draw upon shared hardship to heal wounds, to learn from each other and to move forward. Healing can occur through storytelling, through community and also through realisation of our intrinsic interconnectedness as individuals” (Refugee Council of Australia, 2022)
