No. 27 – 15th October 2020

PRINCIPAL'S NEWS

Dear Parents

Welcome back to Rawlinson Primary School and to the final term of 2020.

It has been a terrific start to the term, the students have been all the things that we have come to expect from them, Ready, Responsible and Respectful.

I have wandered around all the classrooms and watched as they strive to do their best, in every subject and join in to make every moment a fun one.  It is an absolute pleasure to be at a school with such caring parents, dedicated teachers and such well-behaved students.

Speaking of fun, I would really like to thank the P&C for funding the African Drummers as an early Term 4 incursion.  It was enjoyed by all students, teachers and even some parents who were invited to join in the drumming, dancing and singing.

I would like to welcome Mrs Longbottom to Rawlinson Primary School as our new Music Teacher.  She comes with the musical skills that we can only dream about and is excited to meet with the students and get the Choir up and running again.  They will meet on Thursday mornings, at 8am in the Music room and all students from Years 4 to 6 are invited.

As well as this I would also like to welcome Mr Johnson as our new Gardener.  Mr Johnson has been working very hard over the holidays to have the school grounds looking green, colourful and inviting.  A huge thanks from us all.

Another person who has joined our staff is Mrs Melanko, who will be working as our Librarian.  Like me, Mrs Melanko is keen to see all the students taking books home to read and there are already stunning displays in the library to encourage students to do this.  Thank you, Mrs Melanko, for taking on the most important task of helping our students learn to read.

Finally, I would like to welcome Ali Dee, our School Chaplin.  Ali will be here on a Thursday for the rest of 2020 and we hope to keep her for 2021.  We are extremely lucky to have Ali with us for the rest of the year.

Kind regards

Darryl Dedman

INTERSCHOOL

Lining up was a tough choice but there was no turning back.  We quietly followed Mrs. McDowell until we saw a long bus with kids in it.  Then we got a little more nervous.  The bus took a long time to get to Anzac Terrace Primary School.  We saw 6 other schools when we came.  Adwa and Chrisheila got scared.  They announced the scores from Monday and Rawlinson was coming third place.  The school did really well at the last events.  It was time to do the year one and two division races.  They began, we cheered, Yay!  After that the games started with year two girls and boys.  They didn’t get first.  Then it was Chrisheila and Adwa’s turn to win but unexpectedly we came first place for the game, which was pass ball.  YAY!

The next game was flag race and we won once again.  Mr Pham was really happy with us.  Next we did leader ball.  We did quite well.  Shockingly, we came first place AGAIN! YAY!  The year ones and twos had to leave early.  Then the year threes, fours, fives and sixes had to do the grand relay and we came second.  Finally, six place was not us, fifth place was not us, fourth place not us, third place (Chrisheila and Adwa were shocked) was not us and second place not us!  We’re FIRST PLACE! YAY!  We had a big smile on our faces, we were shocked on the bus.  When we got back to school the whole school was in the pathway cheering at us because Rawlinson won THE SHIELD!!!

HEALTH TIPS

SUN SAFETY

With the hot weather approaching, it is important to talk to your children about sun safety and teach them good sun protection habits.

Slip on some sun-protective clothing that covers as much skin as possible.

Slop on broad spectrum, water resistant SPF30+ sunscreen. Put it on 20 minutes before you go outdoors and every two hours afterwards. Sunscreen should never be used to extend the time you spend in the sun.

Slap on a hat that protects your face, head, neck and ears.

Seek shade.

Slide on some sunglasses – make sure they meet Australian Standards.

Extra care should be taken between 10am and 3pm when UV levels reach their peak. For more information see the Cancer Council website: www.cancer.org.au

UNIFORM SHOP

Next Uniform Shop

FRIDAY 23rd October 2.15 – 3.00pm. This is the final open day for the year.

Kindy 2021 Open day -  date to be confirmed.

Faulty Jackets

All those who received a faulty jacket should have received a letter from me at the end of term.  In this letter are the details required to receive your refund.  You have until the end of term 4 to return your jacket to receive a full refund.  If you have misplaced your letter please let me know and I will arrange a replacement for you.  We will only be restocked with jackets next year, so you are free to use the jackets until the cold weather has finished for this year.

Volunteers

We still need new volunteers to help with Uniform Shop open days.  The Uniform Shop is open once per month during term time.  Helping at an open day requires 45 minutes of your time, less if it’s not busy.  For the Kindy Open Day in November we will need a minimum of 7 volunteers. Tea and Coffee are available.
