Principal's Report

Tuesday 7th June 2022

Hello everyone,

Unfortunately Trish is unwell at the moment and will be absent all week, so we will not have a Principal's report today. We all hope that she starts to feel better, and look forward to seeing her back at school very soon. In the meantime, please enjoy the MMPS newsletter for this week.

Thank you.

Celebrations - Grade 1 Inquiry

This term the Grade 1's have been exploring Celebrations for their Inquiry. We were fortunate to have so many parents and grandparents willing to come and share their experiences of celebrations from their own culture - Fijian celebrations, Greek Easter, Martisor and St Patrick's Day. Below are some photos of the children eagerly learning about all the different celebrations. For instance, last Tuesday, they learnt all about  Martisor, a spring time holiday in Romania, and helped create a traditional  red and white symbol that represents Spring and the Revival of Nature.

Donut Day

Last Friday was International Donut Day, and our School Capitan Lucy, along with the Junior School Council organised a whole school Donut Day to help raise funds for a local charity, the Gisborne Food Bank. All students got to eat a yummy Donut in return for a gold coin donation for the charity which does some amazing work, helping those in need within the Macedon Ranges. The day was a great success, and the students all enjoyed their Donuts as you can see from the photos below. Thank you to Michelle and Deborah for supplying the donuts and well done Lucy, Molly and the Junior School Council for organising such a successful fundraising event!

Grade 5 and 6 CYC

This Wednesday - Friday the Grade 5 and 6 students will be heading off to the CYC camp in Melbourne. This is a fantastic opportunity for our students to explore and view our great city of Melbourne and all that it has to offer. They will be visiting some places of cultural and educational importance such as the NGV, The Lume exhibition, ACMI, the Aquarium, The Shrine, Eureka Skydeck, seeing musical shows and theatre and much much more. This will not only compliment their learning in school, but also give them the opportunity to gain some independence, confidence and also have some fun. We hope that they enjoy their time exploring and learning in Melbourne, and look forward to hearing all about it next week.

French News

This term the Years 3 to 6 have the opportunity to participate in the Berthe Mouchette Competition run by the Alliance Francaise de Melbourne. Students learn a French poem and I will film them reciting it and send the video to the Alliance Francaise for judging.

There is no cost for the students as I have secured funding through the Association of French Teachers Victoria for the enrolment.

If you would like to support your children at home and help them learn their chosen poem, the link to access the poems, both the text and recordings, is:  https://www.afmelbourne.com.au/schools-and-teachers/bmc/info/poems/

Bonne chance!

French Poem Drawings

This week, as the French Poem competition draws closer, the students created some amazing drawings to help them prepare for, and accompany their French Poem recitals. Below are some beautiful pieces of art from some of our French students.

MMPS Lantern Parade

As part of the Grade 1 Inquiry into Celebrations, the whole school have been invited to join in with a Lantern Parade at school on Wednesday the 22nd June between 5 and 6 pm. Please save the date. In the coming weeks, the students will be creating their very own lanterns in Art class, which they  excitedly started yesterday.  We look forward to seeing their creative lanterns in the parade in a couple of weeks time.

Parent Event - Mexican Fiesta

From the Office

Winter has really hit the Macedon Ranges and may bring with it some challenges with getting to school on time.  With frosty, dark mornings it is often hard to rise from warm beds, therefore, if you are running late, please ensure students are signed in at the office.

Please also be reminded to contact the school on 5426 1446 to report absences as early as possible.

Sushi

Due to the Public Holiday on Monday 13th June, there will be no Sushi orders next week.

Lost Property

We have several lost property items at the office, un-named.  If your child has misplaced uniform items, please help yourself to check the lost property bucket.

At the end of each term, un-named lost property items will be taken to the St Paul’s Op Shop in Gisborne.
