Dear Parents/Carers,
Preschool Assessment and Rating
It is with great pleasure that I announce to our community that our preschool has recently undergone the Assessment and Rating against the National Quality Standards. This involved critical reflection by the preschool staff against their own practices to develop a Quality Improvement Plan (QIP) and then a two day visit by an Authorised Officer to interview, observe evidence, document and confirm what our QIP stated. We have just received our report and our school has received EXCEEDING against all 7 of the National Quality Standards.
Well done to our preschool staff on this achievement. We know our preschool is amazing but it is very special to have it confirmed. I have included our certificate in the newsletter showing each of the National Quality Standard areas.
Athletics Carnival
It seems everything was going against us with holding our Athletics Carnival but thank goodness, with some careful planning, the Athletics Carnival committee managed to run the carnival across at Adams Park yesterday. Thank you to the committee with all the last-minute organisation and the flexibility of staff to change roles at the last minute. The students had a great time participating in the events and earning points for their sports house.
Students who had paid the bus fare for the journey to Makepeace oval will have the $8 used as fees in advance for the next excursion or event.
All our events from our Athletics Carnival will be timed and measured. Mr Papas and the carnival committee will work out the place getters in each age event and ribbons will be presented at next week’s morning assembly. On Monday 5 September the Lansdowne Zone Athletics Carnival will be held and students will be informed if they have qualified for an event early next week. Not all place getters go to zone. Zone will be for students who have made the qualifying times (track events) and distances (field events).
Chess Champions
Our school chess team has had a busy week with two different competitions to participate in. Ms Chen and Ms Marcelja have a special report included in this newsletter with further details. We are very proud of all our chess players and all of their achievements. Thank you to the parents who assisted with transportation to the location for one of the competitions.
Community Day
The Community Day Committee are hard at work getting ready for our Community Day on Wednesday 21 September. Raffle prizes have been sourced, each grade is organising their stalls, rides and activities have been booked and our Canley Cash is being prepared. Keep an eye out for special flyers informing us of all the activities we can expect for our special day. Our last Community Day was back in 2019 so I am definitely looking forward to experiencing my first Canley Vale Community Day.
We have had many prizes and cash donations, to purchase more prizes, from local businesses for our HUGE Community Day Raffle. Raffle tickets were sent home last week with every student. Once the raffle tickets have been sold please send the money and tickets into the office. If you would like more raffle tickets to sell please ask at the front office. We have 6 huge hampers of prizes as well as various vouchers at venues, cafes and restaurants. Tickets are $2 each or 6 for $10. The raffle will be drawn at 1:30pm.
Please lock in Wednesday 21 September in your diaries – it is going to be a spectacular day!
Canley Cash for Community Day
Each student was provided with an envelope and note regarding Canley Cash (CC) last week in preparation for Community Day. A price list of items was also included so that parents have an idea of what each activity or item will cost. I would recommend that each child have between $10-$20 in Canley Cash to enjoy their day with food and activities. The ride Mega Pass is a separate cost and pre-orders for these have now closed. Mega ride passes can be purchased on the day at a booth, along with more Canley Cash, if required.
Swimming Scheme
In Term 4 we will be participating in Swimming Scheme. This is an opportunity for our students in Years 2-6 to participate in swimming lessons for 2 weeks (Monday 7 November to Friday 18 November). We have not had this opportunity at Canley Vale since 2019. Our school is lucky to have secured dates in November. The school will reduce the cost to enable as many students as possible to participate. The lessons are free, however, each participant will need to pay for bus travel and pool entry. The school will subsidise this cost. An Expression of Interest will go home soon so students can secure a place. The dates do overlap with our Year 5 excursion to Canberra but we have come up with a plan so that Year 5 do not miss out on the chance to participate in Swimming Scheme. Further details will be provided soon.
PSSA Season 2
Season 2 PSSA for Lansdowne comes to an end today. We had all six sporting teams qualify for the semi-finals last week. Congratulations to our two netball teams, our two touch football teams and our two football (soccer) teams. The junior football team will be playing in the final today at Endeavour Park. We will let you know the outcome at the end of the school day. Good luck to our boys!
P&C Meeting
Thank you to the parents and carers who attended our last P&C meeting. Many things were discussed. A special guest spoke to parents about school photos, we had Mr Papas speak about student reports, we thanked the parents who have been assisting with breakfast club and we also spoke about Community Day and Father’s Day stall.
Father’s Day Stall
Next Wednesday 31 August we will have our P&C running a Father’s Day stall. Students in all classes will be given an opportunity to purchase one gift for their dad or father-figure in their life. Once all students have had the opportunity to buy one gift and if they have more money, they can purchase another one later in the day.
We welcome parents to come along on Wednesday after he morning assembly and help run the stall to enable all our students to buy a lovely gift for their dads.
Sending out a special Happy Father’s Day to all our dads, grandfathers, pops and father figures in our community.
Mrs McDaniel is Retiring
At the end of this term Mrs Carol McDaniel will say farewell to Canley Vale PS as an Assistant Principal of Stage 2 and a classroom teacher. Mrs McDaniel has been at Canley Vale Public School since 1995. She has 4 weeks left for us all to say farewell and I am sure she will enjoy all the activities that we have ahead leading up to the end of Term 3. It will be a very busy end of term with Mrs McDaniel’s last Community Day to attend as well.
Kind regards,
Margaret Creagh
Principal
