President's Report

Welcome to all new and returning families to Eastmont Pre-School for 2022

My name is Carly and I’m the Vice-President of Eastmont Pre-School. My son Lucas attended Eastmont last year as a 3 year old and he is so excited to be coming back in 2022 to the 4 y.o. Possums Group. I am looking forward to working with the 2022 committee and meeting the rest of the Eastmont families over the coming year.

The committee have been taking care of the kinder gardens over the break. Special thanks to Fiona, Sarah Williams and Megan who came in over the holidays to water the gardens and Mick who has conducted a clean and tidy up of the grounds prior to kinder classes commencing this year. The garden is looking fantastic.

One of the things the makes Eastmont Pre-school so special is our wonderful staff. Sonya, Heather, Sue, Michelle and Hong are returning to Eastmont again. We are also excited to welcome Gina who is the new 4yo Possum teacher. The staff have done a terrific job so far, settling in and getting to know all of the children starting this term.

Now this report would normally be written by our President however this position is vacant and so I’m inviting any parents interested in taking on this position to contact me on vicepresident@eastmont.org.au. It’s a great opportunity to join a wonderful community organisation and the President will be well supported by the Executive Team. I’m more than happy to talk to anyone that would like to learn more.

The Committee of Management are all looking forward to a productive year. Keep informed with what is happening at Eastmont by installing the Skoolbag app, adding Eastmont Pre-school and joining your child's group on the app.

Director's report

Welcome from the Director + 4 y.o. update

It’s been a great start to the year with the children in both the Koala and Possum groups settling in well, and the gate drop offs and pick ups going smoothly.

Our focus over these first few weeks has been on getting to know the children and supporting them as they become familiar with the 4yo kindergarten environment and routines-managing their bags and other belongings, toileting, hand washing etc. The children are beginning to get to know each other and are starting to learn the educator’s names.

Following advice from the Department of Education and Training, we have been conducting the kindergarten programme outdoors. There have been lots of small group play experiences which provide children opportunities to connect with their peers and practice and develop communication, turn taking and sharing skills. The children have been having fun playing with water in the trough and creek bed-getting wet and keeping cool!

Other learning experiences have included playdough, painting, puzzles, Lego, pasting and drawing. We have been enjoying our group times on the grass, in the shade, where we have been reading stories, singing, dancing and playing get to know each other games. In response to the children’s interest in dinosaurs, we’ve started learning some dinosaur songs and set up a play space with books, dinosaurs and a volcano. There is also a live interactive virtual incursion (conducted by Melbourne Museum) booked for early March.

Please ensure that you apply sunscreen to your child’s skin before each session (we reapply at 12pm) and that clothing covers their shoulders and upper arms. We’re all looking forward to a fun year ahead with lots of learning and laughter!

Please feel free to call (9874 4044) or email me (eastmont.kin@kindergarten.vic.gov.au) if you have any comments, queries or suggestions or would just like to discuss your child’s progress.

3 y.o. report and welcome

3 y.o. update

The children in the Wombat groups have had a great start to the kinder year. After exploring the kinder space with their families during our Enrolment Interviews, where we discussed the year to come, all of the children attended their very first kinder sessions in our small group Settling In Program. The Wombats are all settling in to their new learning environment very well.

This term we are focusing on getting to know all of the children and are working on helping all the Wombats to feel comfortable at kinder. Our program offers a range of outdoor learning activities which aim to:

  • Aid the children in getting used to the kindergarten routine,
  • support them to engage in a range of new play based learning experiences,
  • encourage their ability to work collaboratively with their peers, and
  • fostering positive learning behaviours such as curiosity, persisting when challenged, self regulation and willingness to try new things.

So far, the Wombats are particularly enjoying exploring the sandpit adventure playground, painting, participating in some sensory learning with water in our creek bed, counting along to the finger play 5 Little Monkeys and singing along to the action song Mr Clickety Cane at Mat Times as well as utilising their creative and dramatic skills in our cubby house.

We look forward to continuing to get to know all of our kinder families and children as our regular kinder session begin next week and continuing to provide a positive learning space and learning opportunities throughout the year.

Gina

Gina joins us this year to teach our Four Year Old Possums with Sonya

I have completed my Master degree at Monash university and Graduate diploma at RMIT. Early Childhood learning is the primary focus of my career and I actively support the concept of play-based learning to meet the needs of children development. I recognise individual abilities, differences, and strengths and strive to offer specialised programs to ensure a fully integrated, well-developed welfare and student wellbeing program. Being multicultural myself, I’m also enthusiastic to teach children different languages and regularly embed cultural activities in the program. During my spare time, I play a traditional Chinese instrument-Gu Zheng. I love spending time with my family, camping, sports and travelling.

I can't wait to get to know the Eastmont children and their families this year!
