Term 3 Week 9: 12th - 16th September 2022

Principal's Blog

Welcome to Week 9 Term 3

Last week we heard the sad news of the passing of Mr. John White an ex Assistant Principal of CBPS. Mr White was an Assistant Principal at here for 13 years retiring in 2017. Through out his time here Mr White taught most classes across Stage 2 and 3 and has left a long-lasting impression on many staff and students. His legacy remains in many events held at the school including “Mr White” cricket.

Make My Day

Today four students from 3G came to share their brochures with me. Darcy, Liam, Rebecca and Brodey created very impressive brochures which included information, maps and pictures of their chosen topic. All children should be very proud of their end product which would not look out of place in a travel agency!

Bailey Seamer

Last Tuesday 5th September an ex-student and local girl Bailey Seamer returned to Caves Beach PS. to speak to our students. Bailey is currently in Caves Beach on her way through on her 5000km walk from Wilson's Promontory to Cape York Peninsula. Bailey spoke about many aspects of her walk, including being chased by emus and waking up to a fox in her tent. She showed students her pack, tent sleeping mat and explained her LifeStraw which she used to drink safely from any water source. Bailey answered many questions for our very curious students. We raised $800.00 for the Black Dog Institute. Thank you to all parents and students who supported this fundraiser so generously. Bailey was very impressed by our school effort and loved receiving the cards made by If. Bailey has promised to return after she completes this amazing venture.

Support Classes

Next year the Department of Education will be establishing 3 support classes at CBPS. We will be employing an additional Assistant Principal, teaching staff and School learning and support officers for these classes. The department is committed to ensuring all students can access and participate in education on an equal basis. In the establishment and ongoing operation of these classes, we will be directed by the DoE’s Inclusive, Engaging and Respectful Schools Reform.

As an inclusive school we embrace all people irrespective of race, gender, disability, religion or difference and ensure our values, behaviours and actions make all our students feel known, valued and cared for. When students are included, they are supported to learn to their fullest potential. For the wider school community, it also relates to an environment where everyone is welcomed and treated fairly, respectfully and has equitable access to opportunities and resources.

Check in Assessment for Years 3, 4, 5 and 6

Dear parents and carers,

During Term 3 and Term 4 students will participate in the Check-in assessment.

The Check-in assessment is a NSW Department of Education online literacy and numeracy assessment available to support schools to assess and monitor student learning.

The assessment can supplement existing school practices to identify how students are performing in literacy and numeracy and to help teachers tailor their teaching more specifically to student needs. Students with a disability may receive the same level of support during the assessment they would normally receive in the classroom.

  • The assessment will be scheduled for our Year 6 students during Term 3, Weeks 8 - 10.
  • The assessment will be scheduled for our Year 3, 4 and 5 students during Term 4 Weeks 1 – 4.
  • All students complete a reading assessment and a numeracy assessment. Year 6 students will also complete a writing task

Grow Your Mind

Another strength you can grow is CREATIVITY.

Being creative means to think of new ways to do things in the classroom, on the playground or at home.

When we show CREATIVITY we use our ELEPHANT and WISE OWL. This strength is important for our mental health because it helps us find our state of ‘flow’.

You can display CREATIVITY by:

  • thinking of multiple ways to solve a problem
  • making up interesting games and exploring different ways to play them
  • writing or drawing something that is unique, just like you
  • starting a new creative activity like singing in the choir, playing a musical instrument or performing in drama

"Creativity doesn't wait for that perfect moment. It creates its own perfect moments out of ordinary ones."

The Uniform Shop operates online all year round – orders placed via QKR will be delivered to classrooms throughout the week.  Alternatively, you can request that orders are left at the office for you to collect.

If your uniforms are too big/too small, please email us and let us know - we can arrange an exchange to ensure that you have the right ones.  Or if you have ANY questions regarding uniforms prior to ordering - please let us know via email and we are happy to help! cavesuniformshop@gmail.com

Uniform Shop – TERM 4 OPENING HOURS

We will be reopening the School Uniform Shop on site for Term 4 2022 – on Wednesday mornings from 8:45am – 9:30am.  This is mainly to assist our new Kindy families with planning their uniform needs – but all families are welcome!

Price Increase

Our Uniform Suppliers have passed on a number of price increases in the past 2 years which we avoided passing on to our families.  However, with a further price rise we have reviewed all prices and there are some changes to come into effect from Term 4 2022.

There is some good news to go with this – we have negotiated a price DROP for our sport shirts so they will actually reduce in price!!

Our school uniform range is still great value and we are significantly cheaper than other retailers on comparable items – eg. our school polos will be $30 from Term 4 whilst Lowes are selling them for $39.

To Order Uniforms

Place your order via the Qkr! App (quick, simple & our preferred option)

**You can link a credit card or debit card to the Qkr! App

If you need an order form to order/pay via direct deposit OR have ANY questions regarding uniforms prior to ordering - please let us know via email and we are happy to help! cavesuniformshop@gmail.com

If your uniforms are too big/too small, please email us and let us know - we can arrange an exchange to ensure that you have the right ones.
