Father’s Day
This Sunday is Father’s Day. We thank all fathers, grandfathers and father figures for the love and guidance they show us and wish them an enjoyable day.
Congratulations
We offer our congratulations to Jorja Lowe (Yr 5) who has been selected to represent Victoria in the National Maths Talent Quest to be held in the second week of September. The focus of the Maths Talent Quest is on the process of mathematical investigations and relating mathematics to everyday life. The title of Jorja’s investigation is “What genre of music has been the most successful over the past 50 years?” Congratulations on your achievements so far, Jorja, and all the best for the nationals.
Hats
As per our Sunsmart policy, school hats will be required to be worn at all playtimes from next Monday. Now is the time of year when UV levels begin to rise and the Cancer Council recommends the reintroduction of Sunsmart measures. Students attending school will need to ensure their hats are at school. Those working from home should put their hats in their schoolbags, ready for a return to school.
School Improvement Surveys
Every four years schools in the Ballarat Diocese undertake a School Improvement Survey. Data is collected from parents, senior students and staff and this data assists in the development of our School Improvement Plan and Annual Action Plans. As with any survey, the more data we receive, the better overall picture we can gain for our analysis and future goal setting. In the coming days, parents will receive login credentials to gain access to the survey. The surveys will be open from Monday 7th September to Friday 18th September. I urge you all to take the time to submit a response.
Managing Student Illness
Thank you to parents for being proactive when it comes to children being unwell. One of the most important things we can do is to stay at home when we are unwell, even when we have the mildest cold or flu-like symptoms. This is especially important for students continuing to attend on-site. Please see the attached fact sheet below from Catholic Education Commission Victoria on this matter.
Remote Learning
Thank you to parents, students and staff for your efforts in making this round of remote learning run as smoothly as it has. It takes a lot of patience and perseverance. Two weeks of this term to go and we await the premier’s announcement this weekend to get an idea as to what the rest of the year might look like.
Onsite Supervision
Please remember that we can only offer supervision to children whose parents cannot provide this at home due to work requirements or exceptional cases. If your child needs to be supervised at school, please register them by calling the school office, giving at least 2 days notice so that adequate supervision can be arranged. Children attending school are doing the same work as they would be doing at home under the supervision of school staff (teachers and/or Learning Support Officers). If we are required to roster on more staff, it means those teachers are not available for contact with their students on those days. As part of Stage 3 restrictions, staff who can work from home MUST work from home, so we are trying to limit the number of staff we call in. I thank you for your consideration of this matter.
Seedling Drive
Orders for seedlings from our Seedling Drive are due by Friday 4th September. Please consider ordering and let friends and family know about it as well. We haven’t got many fundraising options available to us at the moment.
Kind regards,
Peter Sanderson
