Term 1 Week 9: 20th March - 24th March 2023

Principal's Blog

Welcome to Week 9!

Make My Day

Today I had a surprise visit from Elkie, Ava and Harry from 1H. They had written and published descriptive writing about whales, including a matching artwork. All students read their piece independently and with expression. Well done! I’m impressed!

Pick Up and Drop Off Areas

We have ongoing issues with our Pick up and Drop Off Area. Please note when dropping students off in the morning, cars need to drive to the furthest point, students exit the car on the passenger’s side and cars move away promptly. If parents need or wish to exit the car to assist students or enter the school, they are required to park on the left-hand side of the road and either walk or allow students to walk and cross at the top crossing.

At pick up, children whose parents have parked on the left-hand side of the road are required to meet their parents at the top crossing. All students using this crossing line up under the COLA near the infant’s boy’s toilet and walk with their supervising teachers to cross at the top crossing. Parents should not meet their child at the front gate if they are parked on the left-hand side and should not supervise their children to cross through the pick up car lines.

Both processes are in place to ensure the safety of all students and to ensure flow of traffic for all using these zones.

University Students

Throughout this week we have 42 university students visiting our K-2 classrooms. The students are in their first year of a Primary teaching degree and are observing some reading and writing strategies in the early years. Well done to our K-2 teachers on being selected to participate in these observations and supporting our next generation of teachers.

Assembly Awards

Recently there has been some parent inquiries about notifications of students receiving Friday Assembly awards. We have always notified parents of students receiving awards at our Celebration Assemblies and Presentation Day and this will continue. This has not been a school process for Friday assemblies, although individual staff of younger students, mainly Kindergarten, have chosen to notify parents. All students receiving awards at Fridays' assembly are now photographed for FaceBook and the Newsletter. Staff believe that notification of the Friday awards, restricts flexibility for staff to make late decisions or changes and leads to a roster system which is not authentic.

Stop Press!

This afternoon I had a very welcomed visit from Landon from K/1P. Landon shared the story he had written about a bat. His writing was neat and well formed, contained sentences and he read beautifully. Great job Landon I'm proud of you!

Grow Your Mind

As we near the end of our first term and head into the school holidays,

it is important to use our Grow Your Mind animals  to be the best we can be and take care of each other.

This fortnight is the ELEPHANT who helps us remember what we have learnt.  To flourish we need to continue learning something new everyday, take time to breath and move our bodies!

Wellbeing

Did you know?

Did you know that mindfulness was first developed in 1979 as Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction in University of Massachusetts Medical Centre to help relieve the suffering from pain, illness, and stress?

Did you know that mindfulness intervention has been associated with a reduction in repetitive thinking for individuals who tend to worry and worry over events in the past or events in the future?

Did you know that mindfulness practice is considered to have the potential to improve mental health?

Did you know that mindfulness is paying attention to what is happening right now – being aware of our own moment-to-moment situation? When we are in the moment, there is less worry about the past or the future.

Did you know that mindfulness is simple and only takes practice?

Library News

Why Read?

Reading allows us to be transported from our own world to another. Between the pages of a book, we can become immersed in the lives of fictional characters and learn about a culture entirely different from our own.

Enviro Group

The Enviro Group were very excited to introduce recycling bins into the playground this week. Our recycling monitors did a presentation to the whole school about what items can go in the recycling bins. They have monitored the bins this week to ensure no rubbish is in the recycling bins before they are collected on Monday. Well done team!
