Principal's Message

New P&C Executive Team

Earlier this term, the P&C put out an SOS of sorts alerting our families of the need for more members and extra assistance at the executive level. After the AGM last Wednesday evening, I’m delighted to report that things look really strong and healthy for the future. Thank you to the many additional people that came to the meeting and for those that are taking on positions on the P&C executive, some for the first time. Thank you for valuing the work of the P&C and for recognising how your contributions ultimately help our students and school. If you were unable to attend this meeting, please join us at the next one early in 2023. There is always room for more members.

Congratulations to the following P&C members elected to executive positions in 2023:

President - Jaime Bartlett

Vice Presidents Events  - Louise Ford and Sarah Dennis

Vice Presidents Marketing - Natasha Rudge, Sarah King and Lauren Marks

Secretary - Kirra Hitchcock

Treasurer - Lauren Marks

Other roles:

Canteen Committee: Lauren Kolstad, Sally Hinchey, Kirra Hitchcock, Jaime Bartlett and Levina Sugo

Bookkeeper: Jess Rollings

Auditor: Matt Dickinson

Grant applications: Amanda Bronish

SRC Starlight Foundation Fundraiser

It was so terrific on Friday to see our class SRC representatives taking a lead role with raising money for a worthwhile charity – The Starlight Foundation. This is a charity close to the students’ hearts and they were the ones that selected it as the focus of the out of uniform day. Several of them have had a family member or friend experiencing an extended stay in hospital that have benefitted from the support of the Starlight Foundation. In total, they raised $363.20 on Friday – a really great effort that will help in a tangible way. Well done SRC!

Colour Run

This coming Friday we host the rescheduled P&C Colour Run. Parents, carers, grandparents and friends are invited to come along to spectate. With rising cases of Covid-19, it is important to remind all students and visitors NOT to attend if you are unwell or have symptoms of Covid-19. If you are joining us to spectate, please do not arrive before 1:15pm. The colour run will occur in two sessions

1.       K-2 between 1:30-2:00pm

2.       3-6 between 2:05-2:35pm.

The best viewing areas will be on the Armstrong reserve at the rear of the school. Please see further on in today’s newsletter for more detail about the colour run and a map of the course and spectator areas.

We hope to see you on Friday.

Have a great week!

Students of the Week - Term 4 Week 6

Congratulations to our students of the week for Week 6 of this term

Home Reading Milestones

Congratulations to Lucinda Shaw from 6CS who successfully reached the ‘170 nights of Home Reading’ milestone in Week 6 of Term 4.

Fantastic reading, keep up the great work!

The colour run will take place this Friday 25 November. The key things you need to know are:

  • Following an early lunch for students at 12:25pm, the event will commence at 1:15pm under the top cola
  • All students are asked to come to school out of uniform and wearing clothing appropriate for participation in the colour run. White or light-coloured t-shirts are particularly good
  • Students with Asthma are encouraged to bring a face mask, or bandana to wear during participation as the dust particles can be known to exacerbate symptoms of asthma
  • All students must bring and wear a pair of sunglasses, safety glasses or goggles to protect their eyes from potential irritation. This is a precaution; the powder is a non-toxic and an organic substance however irritation is still possible if caught in the eyes

Coloured Powder - If you are not familiar with Colour Runs, the coloured powder is made from edible grade maize, tapioca starch, colours, dyes, natural perfumes and flavouring agents. It can be removed from skin with warm water and soap.

  • Parent, carers, grandparents, friends are all invited to come along to spectate. Please do not arrive before 1:15pm and we recommend that you bring along your own camp chairs. See the attached map for an indication of the spectator areas
  • Students, parents and other visitors, should not attend if they are unwell
  • Whilst it is not mandatory, we encourage visitors to consider wearing a face mask if they would like and to spread out in the spectator areas to minimise the risk of transmitting illness unwittingly
  • The event will conclude under the cola at approximately 2:40pm with a whole-school colour explosion at 2:45pm
  • We would advise families pack an old towel/blanket or plastic bag to protect the car for the journey home at the end of the event.
  • Students attending OOSH at the end of the day should pack clothes to change into and bring a plastic bag and towel.
  • Please note the prize draw was conducted at the end of Term 3 when the first colour run was postponed, there will be no further prize draw occurring on the day

  • In the event of wet weather, notices will be published on Skoolbag on the morning of the event confirming if the event will go ahead or need to be cancelled.

Current permission notes due

Stage One Lambton Park Excursion

An excursion has been planned for Stage One students to support their current “Safety First” unit of work in PDHPE which includes mandatory road, sun and water safety lessons. To help consolidate their learning of safety, we have planned a local excursion to Lambton Park which will allow for conversations with the students about road and other dangers in the local area. The excursion is planned for Wednesday 30 November from 11:35 am – 1:00 pm. Permission notes were emailed to Stage One parents and carers last week with full details.

Year 6 Farewell

The Year 6 Farewell will be held at Wallsend Diggers on Tuesday 6 December from 6:00 pm. Students received their invitations last week and permission notes have been emailed to all Year 6 parents and carers. A popular highlight of the evening is a slideshow presentation featuring  students Kindergarten and Year 6 school photographs.

If your child was not enrolled at Lambton Public School in Kindergarten we would appreciate parents and carers forwarding a copy of their child’s Kindergarten photo to be included in our slideshow. Photos can be emailed to Lambton-p.school@det.nsw.edu.au or alternatively bring or send the photo to the school office and where staff will scan the photo.

Taronga Zoo Excursion

Stage 2 students had a fantastic day at Taronga Zoo on Friday 11 November. They visited one of the new immersive Habitat Classrooms and participated in a workshop where they examined the climate, vegetation and native animals of Australia and Sumatra. The students discussed the importance of habitats for animals and people and the way people value environments. During the workshop they sat among different birds flying around and got to view and touch some other animals, including a long-neck turtle and a gliding possum. They spent the rest of their day exploring the other animal exhibits around the zoo and then all watched the seal and bird shows to finish the day. Many people recognised and made comment about the students amazing behaviour and manners. They should be extremely proud of the way they represented Lambton Public School.

We hope you enjoy a recount of the day written by Phoenix Marshall and Alanna Preece.

Covid Update

The number of people contracting the Covid-19 virus has been rising again over the past week with health authorities encouraging citizens to be extra vigilant with adopting the measures that we know to be Covid-smart. We remind all families that if children are unwell, they should not attend school until they are well and symptom free.

We hope to shortly distribute further RAT tests for each family to assist you with monitoring for signs of Covid-19. If in doubt, please support your child to conduct RAT tests any morning where they have cold or flu-like symptoms before attending school. If we continue to work together and respect this advice, we stand a better chance of avoiding outbreaks of Covid in the school.

If your child does test positive, we still appreciate you notifying our office so that we can keep the whole community alert to potential risk or exposure.

School Assembly

Our next school assembly is scheduled to take place this Thursday 24 November and will be led by 1/2S. Family and friends are invited to join us if you can.

COVID-smart measures to continue throughout Term 4

  • From Week 1, Monday 10 October, the following COVID-smart measures will remain in place in our schools:
  • Students and staff must stay at home if unwell and test for COVID-19 if showing any symptoms
  • Extra cleaning of bathrooms, drinking fountains and other high touch areas will continue in Term 4
  • Masks continue to be strongly encouraged for all staff, students and school visitors, particularly when indoors and when physical distancing is not possible. Masks continue to be mandatory for all staff working with students at greater risk of severe illness if they were to get COVID-19.
  • Household or close contacts who are symptom-free can attend mainstream schools if they receive a negative RAT result every day for 5 school days and wear a mask (staff and high school students) while on site.
  • Natural ventilation will be maintained with windows and doors open whenever possible, including when cooling/heating systems are in use.
  • Additional circuit breaker measures continue to be implemented at schools when the risk of transmission within the school or wider community is considered high. Some schools may be directed to temporarily reintroduce additional COVID-19 measures including mandatory mask-wearing to minimise transmission risks.
  • Refer to COVID-smart measures for further details.
