Lismore South Public School Newsletter

Term 2 Week 1-3

Principal Message

Welcome back to Term 2 at Lismore South Public School.

Thank you to those families who supported the Lismore ANZAC Day by bringing their students to march with the school. Our students and staff walked proudly and represented their school with respect. There were a lot of positive comments and cheering from the crowd as the students made their way along Molesworth Street to the War Memorial.

Staff engaged in webinars, online information, discussions and planning on the Staff Development Day. The focus of our learning on that day was improving the outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students and ensuring the sharing of culture and perspectives with all students.

Our Year 6 students were excited to receive their new school shirts, they are wearing them proudly and look fantastic. Staff loved the design the Year 6 students chose and purchased the same design.

Our School Cross Country was postponed until this week because of wet conditions. It was a great day and students, staff and families enjoyed the beautiful weather. Students have been practising on our school oval but excelled themselves on the track at Nesbitt Park. Everyone went home with a tired smile on the day. Thank you to Mrs Golding and her team for a great day!

Staff from the STEM Academy came to launch the Solar Car Challenge on Tuesday. Students in Year 5 & 6 will be designing, planning, testing, modifying and creating solar cars over the coming weeks.

Thank you to those parents and carers who have attended the Student Led Conferences this week. It was great to see the excitement of students bringing their family into the school to talk about their learning and achievements in the classroom. Remember if you could not make an appointment this week, contact the school to make an alternative time with your child’s teacher.

Staff and students have made a great start to Term 2 and our focus - to be on task is certainly evident in the classrooms of Lismore South Public School. Keep up the effort everyone!

Regards

Karen Newton

Primary Schools State Knockout Soccer

On Thursday 4th May, LSPS played two games of soccer against Wyrallah Road Public.  The boys played first and gave their all, with every player contributing.  The girls played with great spirit and endeavour. Unfortunately both teams were unable to secure the win. We look forward to more games in the future. Everybody represented the school with pride, playing fairly and for each other. Well done both teams. Thank you to Bodhi Estreich and Mrs Smidt for coaching the boys and girls, and to the parents who assisted with transport.

Preschool News

Welcome back to Term 2. We have had a lovely start to the term, enjoying the sunshine, our new fire truck and basketball hoop in our outdoor play environment. This term we are looking forward to beginning our journey of learning to write our names and continuing to strengthen our fine motor skills to develop precision and control when writing and drawing. In numeracy we will be focusing on number knowledge and beginning to explore one to one correspondence when counting objects.

We are looking forward to celebrating the dedicated women in our children's lives for our Mother's Day pamper morning on Wednesday 10th of May. Children from both groups are encouraged to bring along one special person that they would like to indulge in a pamper morning to show their appreciation of all the wonderful things they do for our children.

Ramp Safety

A gentle reminder for families that running on the ramp that leads to the preschool is very unsafe. Please support your children to walk up and down the ramps and stay with you when arriving and leaving the preschool. Educators will also support this learning in the classroom by using role play and discussions with children about ramp safety and the importance of staying with a responsible adult when walking to and from the school gate.
