Term 1 Week 3

From The Principal

School Closures

Thank you to all parents for swiftly picking up your children on Monday. Keeping our students safe is a top priority at Terara, and yesterday's closure, a decision made in conjunction with emergency service warnings and our Director of Educational Leadership, was a precautionary measure taken in response to the risk of rising tides to ensure the safety of everyone at our school. The Shoalhaven River is no longer expected to flood, which means our school is open, operational and back to business as usual.

These past few months with the unpredictable weather events have proved that it is absolutely vital for us to have a way to quickly communicate important information to our school community. I strongly encourage all families to download our Skoolbag app and like our Facebook page so that you can keep up to date with our school at all times.

Again, we thank you for your quick response on Monday, as well as your patience and understanding during these unpredictable weather events.

Nowra Show Success

Due to the weather conditions on Friday morning we had to make the painful decision to not attend the Nowra Show this year. The heavy rain, however, did nothing to dampen our achievements of our students at the Show.

It was is such an honour to walk around the pavilion on Friday afternoon after school and not only see so many quality Terara entries, but to also see so many entries awarded prizes. Well done to all students and teachers who submitted to the show, and a massive thank you to the hard work of all the teachers who helped to pull our entries together and get them to the show. Some of the art will be featured in our school office, otherwise it will be sent back to classrooms for students to take home.

**All money paid for this excursion will be put into fees in advance and  used to pay for the Life Education visit happening in Term 2.

Safer Internet Day!

Tuesday the 11th of February is Safer Internet Day. On Safer Internet Day, millions of people around the world unite to raise awareness about online safety issues and inspire positive change.

We are very proficient with our technology here at Terara Public School and we use it for many of our lessons, which is why we believe taking time to talk about how to be safe online is such a valuable thing to do. The theme of this years event is to "start the conversation before someone else does". We do this in class, and students will be participating in special age appropriate lessons for this during the week.

Below is a link to the e-Safety Commissioner website that has a list of topics that all parents should discuss with their children when they are at an appropriate age. Although some topics may be uncomfortable, we also encourage all parents to discuss internet safety with their children so we can make sure they are safe online, whether at home or school.

Afternoon Bus Safety

The safety of students is a top priority at Terara.

Please ensure:

  • to be extra careful when crossing the roads near and around buses in the afternoon.
  • To cross the road with your child, no matter what age
  • Pick your child up from the gate
  • Drive extra carefully when arriving or departing the school

Thank you for you assistance in keeping our children safe.

From The Students

Nowra Show - Harry and Hayden

On Friday I competed in the Nowra Show. I got a first place ribbon for leading in the paraders. The Nowra Show is fun because there are fun games to play. I was the only one in my family to lead a calf at the show. The calf's name is Lana. I got $65 from the Nowra Show. - Harry

On Thursday 6th February I went to Nowra Show to set up in the cattle area. The next day on Friday 7th February I got up early in the morning. At 9 o'clock it was time for paraders and I led a calf. My friend Harry Crawford also led a calf. He won 1st Place and I won 2nd place. - Hayden

Power FM Radio Announcer - Indy

On Friday I was the Nowra Show because I won the Nowra Show Buddy competition with Power FM. This meant I got to go to the Show with the Power FM radio hosts, Andy and Kaylee, and review rides, eat pizza and fairy floss from the stalls and talk live on the radio.

On Friday it was really rainy and there were only a couple of rides going. I only went on one ride and went on 9 others on when I went back on Saturday. I had an amazing time and loved speaking live on the radio.

I had a great time being Andy & Kaylee’s show buddy!

Students Taking Extended Leave

All families are encouraged to take any of their extended vacations during the school holiday periods to ensure that learning is not disrupted for your children. If this is not possible and vacations need to occur during the school term, parents will be required by Department of Education policy to contact our school office, inform them of the holiday that will be occurring and complete an extended leave application form. Thank you for your understanding in this matter.

New Phone System and Answering Machine

During the holidays our school began upgrading its phone system. This upgraded system will mean there will be a phone in each classroom and that our office staff can easily contact classrooms via direct calling or intercom.

We now also have an answering machine that will be engaged when our school office is closed. Our school office is open between 8:30 and 3:15. All messages left on the machine will be replied to at our earliest convenience.
