TERM 1 WEEK 6 - 27 FEBRUARY 2023

Principal Update

As we approach the middle of the term it has been pleasing to see students enjoying their learning and already making the most of the many extracurricular activities that are available.

At Moruya Public School we seek to provide a range of academic, sporting and creative activities for students to enjoy. Fife and Drum, sports knockouts, weekly swimming and extension and enrichment activities are just a few of the activities that some students have had the opportunity to enjoy this year.

Today students enjoyed participating in an incursion called Cyber Wiser. Students were encouraged to think about their activities online in order to keep themselves safe.  We will continue to ensure that a range of activities are available to all students to support their social, emotional and academic engagement at school.

Organisation for tomorrow 28 February

Tomorrow afternoon a significant number of staff will be attending a funeral and memorial service. As a result of this our school will be operating with minimal supervision from 1.00 pm.  At 1.00 pm all students in mainstream classes will be viewing the movie 'Jungle Beat' in the hall.  The afternoon tea break will be as normal with students returning to the hall for the final session.  There will be staff on site supervising students in the hall and during the break time. Support classes will continue to operate.  If you would like any further information please do not hesitate to contact me.

Class organisation 2023

Our student numbers for this year have been steady for the last few weeks.  As such, there will be no changes to class organisation this year.  Students have settled into their classes and it has been lovely to see engaged learners in each classroom.

P&C

Thank you to the new and existing P&C members who attended the meeting last Tuesday.   Having a strong partnership with our parents and community is important to ensure we get great outcomes for the students at Moruya Public School.  Our next meeting will remain at the new time of 3:10 pm.  I'm looking forward to working with the P&C this year and encourage you to consider attending in the future if you are able to.

School Hats

Bucket hats are now back in stock at the uniform shop and can be purchased for $6.   Students are required to wear a hat while playing outside or they will be asked to play in the shade.

AEC Meeting

Our school Aboriginal Education Committee will be meeting this Wednesday at 3:15 pm in the staffroom.   Parents and community members are welcome to attend.

Wishing everyone a wonderful week

Sarah Davis

Deputy Principal

On Friday we celebrated our students who will be part of the Student Representative Council in 2023.  An important part of the role of the SRC is the student voice.  Student voice is more than just students 'having a say' and 'being heard'.

We value the perspectives and opinions of students, and their insight will influence learning and decision-making at the school.

Our Student Representatives for 2023 are:

Kira,  Zayde, Zarlee, Telio,  Zara,  James,  Liora, Willow MP,  Mila,  James Co, Max M, Ari, Eli D,  Jack R,  Kaitlin O,  Marcus,  Jemma,  Leilani,  Annalise C, Lachlan S, Tessa, Gemma, Cameron, Addison,  Jordyn, Dean S, Byron, Kaitlan C

The new SRC will meet next week and the first item on their agenda will be generating some ideas for renaming some of the playground areas and discussing our student merits.

I look forward to working with the students throughout 2023.
