Southerly Buster

Term 3 Week 10

Spring into Spring

Acknowledgement of Country

We would like to acknowledge Goulburn as an important meeting place that was inhabited, at first contact with Europeans, by the Gundungurra and Ngunawal people who are the traditional custodians of this land. We would like to pay respect to Elders both past, present and future, also extending that respect to other Aboriginal people present today on the land in which we meet, work and live.

News from the South

Well another term is almost done. We would like to commend our families and students for their outstanding efforts during COVID. Attendance is extremely important and those students who consistently arrive at school with a "can do attitude" ready to learn you are amazing.

We will be conducting a "Tell them from me" survey in Term 4 for students. Parents and carers should have received the information letter sent home in week 9. This survey will provide the school with valuable feedback on what our students think about school life. The survey is completely confidential and the identity of the student remains anonymous.

The students have been involved in many in school events this term despite many restrictions. Our garden continues to thrive with plenty of vegies being picked for Taste Test Tuesday, new trees have been planted in the back playground, a new playground will be completed hopefully by the time the students return in Term 4. We are extremely lucky to have a talented GA Mr Hazelgrove who has built and amazing rocket ship for the students. As a school we have celebrated " Education Week", "Wattle Day" just to name a couple. Our students are becoming budding musicians thanks to music lessons that are being held at school.

On the whole, a big thank you must also go to all the staff at Goulburn South. This year has been challenging but the staff have remained focused on teaching and supporting our students and keeping things normal.

We only have a few days of term remaining and hope that the weather will be kind, especially as we head into the school holidays. We wish you all a great break and look forward to seeing you all back Monday 12th October.

Welcome to Kindy 2021

Kindergarten Orientation 2021

It is with regret that we are unable to provide our 2021 Kindies with the orientation program that we normally run. Due to COVID restrictions we are unable to hold in class visits during Term 4, however we will adapt to the situation and bring the orientation to you! Our team of teachers have been busy preparing videos and working hard to make the experience of Kindy orientation a memorable one. Watch this space for more information in Term 4

Out and about

Friendship Park @ Goulburn South

It is with great excitement that we can announce the Friendship Park development will commence during the school holidays. In our previous edition of the Southerly Buster we revealed the project and our amazing donations and sponsors. We anticipate that the project should be completed hopefully  (subject to weather) by the start of Term 4. This project will provide our students with a new and stimulating play experience.

CyberSafety

In recent weeks we have had many discussions with our students about being safe whilst online. We had Snr Constable Beard visit the school on Wednesday to provide advice and also answer questions and discuss any concerns that the students may have. Technology plays a huge part in the lives of young people, however it is vitally important that our students understand how to be safe online and our parents and carers need to ensure that they know what their children are doing online. Below is a link to a website that provides resources and information to families and students on the safety of being online

Book Week Celebrations 2020

On Friday 23rd October 2020. Goulburn South will be celebrating Book Week in style. Students are invited to dress up as their favourite book character for the day. Costumes must relate to books and be appropriate for school (no off the shoulder or midriff tops). School hats and shoes must be worn. Carry a copy of your book so we can see what a great costume you have made. To adhere to COVID restrictions there will be a K-2 parade and a 3-6 parade. Unfortunately parents are not permitted to attend, however teachers will be taking photos to share with parents after the parades. We are looking forward to seeing all the fantastic costumes on the day.

Our Book Fair will still go ahead for students only on Friday 23rd October. during the week students will have an opportunity to preview the wonderful selection of books and complete their wish list to take home. Parents, caregivers and grandparents will be able to view these wish lists and encourage their children to purchase a book and support their Library. Payments for books can be completed online at www.scholastic.com.au/payment   then fill in your receipt number and details on the back of the wish list. Return the completed wish list with your child to the Library. Alternatively payments may be made at the school office by returning the wish list with the correct money in an envelope clearly marked with your child's name and class.

Students may also like to think about donating a book a book from the Fair to the school Library to add some new and current books to our collection.

Every purchase helps the school library and it is a great way to put books into the hands of our kids! I am so excited to be celebrating Book Week 2020 at Goulburn South. Please watch the following clip to see the importance of Book week and our Book Fair.

Talk & Dress like a Pirate - 22 September

3/4L News

Talk like a Pirate Day on Tuesday was an opportunity to use our imagination during writing. Students wrote stories about sailing the open sea with a crew of adventurers. Some of their conversations included pirate phrases, like ‘Ahoy there!’ We created individual pirate flags, pirate names and an artwork of a ship on the sea. At last, there was a celebratory lunch on the school library balcony for reaching our class Reading at Home goal.  Congratulations on a great term!
