St Timothy's School Vermont

Term 2 Week 4 Friday 20th May 2022

All students at St Timothy's School have the right to feel safe. The care, safety and wellbeing of children and young people is the responsibility of all within our school.

Rapid Antigen Test

We are still providing RAT test kits to families. As of May 25th children bo longer need to test twice a week but DO NEED to test whenever symptoms appear.

IF A CLOSE CONTACT TEST POSITIVE YOU DO NOT HAVE TO ISOLATE BUT YOU MUST COMPLETE A RAT TEST EACH DAY AND WEAR A MASK.

We are very happy to provide RAT kits for you to be able to do this testing. Thank you

Influenza

With borders opening and the arrival of colder weather, cases of influenza (the flu) are increasing throughout Victoria. Our community is at risk of higher rates of students and staff affected by the flu or COVID-19 this season.

What to do if your child gets sick

To help keep your child and our school community safe, please take the following steps if your child has any cold or flu-like symptoms:

  • take a COVID-19 test and follow the current Department of Health isolation requirements if a positive result is shown
  • keep your child at home until their symptoms pass
  • common flu-like symptoms include a high fever, cough, runny nose, loss of appetite, body aches and feeling extremely weak and tired
  • diagnosis of the flu can only be confirmed by a doctor after a nose or throat swab
  • encourage your child to wash their hands regularly and ask them to cover their nose and mouth when sneezing and coughing.

COVID-19 vaccination

COVID-19 vaccines are available free of charge to everyone aged 5 years and over in Australia.

It is important that children and young people have the best possible protection against the flu and COVID-19 by getting vaccinated.

Ensuring your children are protected against serious illness helps to protect everyone in our community, including older family members who may be at higher risk, along with younger children who can’t receive vaccinations yet.

You can book COVID-19 vaccinations through the COVID-19 hotline on 1800 675 398 or at a participating GP, pharmacy, or community health service.

Some local schools are also holding walk-in COVID-19 vaccination clinics on school grounds. Vaccination settings can be found at the Vaccine Clinic Finder.

Flu vaccination

Flu vaccination is recommended for everyone aged 6 months and over.

Some people are more at risk of complications from the flu and are eligible for free vaccination under the National Immunisation Program including:

  • anyone aged 65 years and older
  • pregnant women (at any stage of pregnancy)
  • all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people aged from 6 months and over
  • people 6 months or older with:
  • children on long-term aspirin therapy from 6 months to 10 years
  • children aged from 6 months to under 5 years.

Flu vaccinations can be booked through GPs and pharmacies, many of which can also provide COVID-19 vaccinations. If you would like more information about the flu vaccination, visit the Better Health Channel.

Saturday 21st May  and Sunday 22nd May

Just like last week’s gospel, this passage also comes from the Last Supper discourse in the Gospel  of John. Again, although its original context was pre-crucifixion, the language works in the post resurrection Easter season as we anticipate the celebration of the Ascension next week. This double  purpose language is, of course, no accident. The gospel was written 60 or more years after the  death and resurrection of Jesus and so the writer was consciously conveying the double meaning  of ‘going away’: Jesus going to his death; and Jesus going back to the Father. But Jesus also  promises his return in this speech. Continuing the double meaning, the gospel writer knew that  Jesus had come good on his promise to return after his death and so conveys to the gospel audience,  and to us, a sense of confidence and hope that the second promised return will also be fulfilled at  the right time.

In the meantime, Jesus promises to send the Holy Spirit to the disciples and to the world. The Holy  Spirit is to be the Advocate (the Paraclete) of the Father and the Son. The Holy Spirit performs a  dual purpose: firstly, to carry on the teaching; and secondly, to continue to remind the believers of  all that Jesus said and did. The action of the Holy Spirit continues in the world today – inspiring  and teaching those who are open to hearing and keeping alive the memory of Jesus, his teaching  and his compassion. We talk about being full of school spirit and team spirit but these feelings of  loyalty and commitment are only a distant echo of what it is to be filled with the Holy Spirit.
