Term 4 Week 3

Principal’s Message

P&C 2023

Monday night saw the P&C AGM take place in our library. This meeting is where the executive positions on the P&C are voted for. We were fortunate to have filled a few of the positions, but we still have some high priority positions to fill.

· President - chairing P&C meetings, being the P&C spokesperson, supporting other P&C volunteers, ensuring P&C rules are adhered to, P&C point of contact with the Principal.

· Vice President - assisting the president in above duties / filling in in event president is absent.

There is also the option to informally take on a shadowing role where you can watch and work alongside a P&C executive member in the aim of building your knowledge and skills in the role, where you may choose to take the reign in future years.

If you have a nomination or wish to discuss your participation on P&C for 2023 then please contact the P&C directly via email: dudleyschoolpandc@gmail.com

The P&C are an active group who have a voice in the operations of the school. They run the Canteen, Uniform Shop and various fundraising and community activities. I encourage anyone who has the time and will to come along to P&C and support this wonderful group of parents and carers in supporting the school, students, staff and community.

Tell Them From Me

Thanks to the 42 parents and carers who have completed the Tell them From Me Survey. We appreciate the 25 minutes that you have dedicated to sharing your insights into the school and this information will assist to support 2023 planning and school initiatives. The surveys are anonymous, and the results will be shared in detail with our P&C at an upcoming meeting. The survey closes on Friday 4 November.

Creative Arts Day Thanks

Many thanks to the wonderful parents, carers and friends who volunteered at our Creative Arts Day last week. The success of the day was captured by the big smiles on every students’ face and the amazing art projects that were completed. Our school is a strong learning environment because of the many people who contribute to it. Thank you volunteers

Have a wonderful week everyone.

Kind Regards,

Chad Tsakissiris

World Teacher's Day

This Friday marks World Teacher’s Day. Our school is very fortunate to have a group of committed and dedicated staff who work tirelessly to best serve the students at Dudley PS. I would like to acknowledge each teacher in our school, not only on Friday, but everyday as they are an amazing team of educators who ensure quality learning happens every day for every student. Thank you teachers.

Parent Chat

We want to gauge parent and carer voice as the year comes to a close and we begin preparing for 2023. I will be hosting parent chats in the school hall and library where we will discuss in an open forum what parents see as the strengths of the school, areas for improvements, school values and projections into the future. Our home school partnership is incredibly important for our students’ learning and these chats will serve to gather information to assist with planning for future goals for Dudley PS. I’m looking forward to chatting with you at these 1 hour sessions.

Overdue books

Please return all overdue books to the library.

There is currently a large number of overdue books which must be returned before the end of the year so that I can review the collection and ensure it is current and relevant for next year.

Let's try to get that number down by searching for those library books and bringing them back as soon as possible!

Kind regards,

P&C News

P&C Request for Help

Your kids school needs you!

Every year, the Dudley PS P&C fund raises and contributes thousands of dollars of educational resources and equipment for the school. We also have a say in key discussions and decision making at the school and we run some fun and exciting events for our community.

At the P&C’s AGM on Monday night, only eight parents from over 160 school families attended. Those 8 people are all existing members, with three leaving the school community next year.

The P&C cannot continue to operate and be effective without new members. Without an effective P&C, our kids would have significantly diminished resources and facilities, and the community culture of our school would suffer.

We are a friendly bunch of ordinary people who need some help and a little will go a long way.

How can you help?

We welcome the whole school community, new families and old, to please get involved. We are asking you to:

· Please come along to a meeting, either at the school or via zoom from the comfort of your own home. Just to be present and listen and offer some input or help in an area that’s relevant to you.

· Please volunteer in the canteen – as little as one hour a term can help a lot.

· Please send an email or Facebook message just to say ‘hi’ and let us know however you might be interested in being involved.

· Please consider filling one of the vacant positions listed further below.

Appointed Positions at the AGM

Thanks to the following who have put their hands up again for the following positions:

· Treasurer – Sian Munroe

· Secretaries – Kirsty Horton and Sarah Dorward

· Uniform subcommittee – Dave Cooper

· Fundraising subcommittee – Jessica Melville

· Auditor (non-member position) – Marilize Van Der Westhuizen

· Canteen subcommittee - Jessica Melville and Sarah Dorward

Vacant P&C positions needing to be filled

· President

· Vice president

· Uniform shop helpers

Role descriptions for President and vice president

The role of president is generally not as time-consuming compared to other roles in the P&C. It includes chairing P&C meetings twice per term, being the P&C spokesperson at school events (e.g., kindy orientation) and P&C social events (e.g., trivia nights), ensuring P&C rules are followed, supporting other committee members, and being the P&C point of contact with the school principal. This role is supported by the secretaries.

The vice president supports the president in their duties.

If you think you might be interested in this role or have more questions, please reach out to Sarah and Kirsty at dudleyschoolpandc@gmail.com.

Uniform shop subcommittee urgently needed

Dave Cooper has been appointed in this role for the SIXTH year running and he is looking to take a well-earned break in 2024. We need at least one other person to come on board and learn the ropes throughout 2023, with a view to ensuring the uniform shop can operate without Dave when he resigns.

We are very thankful to Dave for successfully running the uniform shop and kitting out our kids in new and second-hand uniforms throughout this time.

If you are interested and would like to learn more about this role, please reach out to Dave at Dudley.uniformshop@gmail.com.

Next meeting – Monday 21 November, 7pm

Please come along to see what it’s all about! You can join us in the school library or via zoom at:

Sustainability

Garbage Guardians – Our Garbage Guardians are always on the lookout for students doing the right thing. Congratulations to our most recent prize winners, Rose McGill and Merryn Champion in 5/6H for showing a thorough understanding of our bin system and always disposing their rubbish correctly. Well done, Girls!

Garden Club – Last week our Garbage Guardians, Alistair, Levi and Aiden, sold some of our delicious vegetable produce. They made enough profit for us to purchase new seedlings to plant out our last two garden beds. We appreciate the enthusiasm from our helpers and hope that any families that made a purchase enjoyed their fresh, school-grown produce – thank you for your support!

Finally, keep an eye out for details regarding our official garden opening later this term.
