Term 4, Week 7

Principal's Report

As we quickly approach the end of term 4 in 2022 our thoughts start to turn toward all of the things that will be coming up. Not long to go now till the Christmas holidays and having a well-earned break.

We still have a lot of things happening around the school. Our leadership team for 2023 will be decided soon and we are still organising our activities so all the students can enjoy the end of the year. Our PBL reward days, PBL excellence days, Christmas concert, Year 6 Graduation, as well as our Presentation Day are just a few of the things that are planned. We hope that you will all be able to join us for some of these occasions as we celebrate our students of 2022.

Swimming Scheme

Swimming Scheme is continuing into next week. All of the students that have been attending are really enjoying the lessons and having fun. Our last lesson will be on Friday 2 December. A big thank you to all the teachers and staff supporting this program.

Leadership Program

Our current Year 5 students are eagerly preparing for the 2023 leadership process. By the time you read this our potential captains will have done their first round of speeches and we will have culled the candidates down to 8.

These 8 students will be invited to speak in round 2 which will take place next Friday 2 December in front of the whole school. At this time the students will vote, and our captains names will be decided upon. This will remain secret until our presentation day where our 2023 captains will be announced. Good luck to all the candidates!

End of Year Activities

As I mentioned earlier, there are a lot of fun activities planned in the next few weeks. Please keep an eye out for notes and information as we want all of our students to enjoy them.

Visitors Coming Onsite

This is just a reminder that everyone who comes onsite to Goulburn Public School must sign in at the office so that we know you are here. This is following Departmental policies, guidelines and procedures and is to ensure the safety and wellbeing of every visitor here at school. Staff need to be informed you are here before you go into your child’s classroom as teachers are busy planning, preparing or teaching your child.

If you have any inquiries, please visit the office. Thank you for your understanding.

Finally, even though it is a busy time of year, it is a pleasure to see our students enjoying their time at school, and developing their love of learning. Seeing the students being excited about what they have achieved, their enthusiasm for celebrating each other’s success and the joy they get when they show off their work to other teachers is really inspiring. I have been very impressed with all the student’s efforts in class and am sure it will continue for the remainder of the year.

If you have any questions, please feel free to see me. My door is always open.

Jeremy White

Relieving Principal

Parents of children from Kindergarten to Year 12 must ensure their children attend school every day. On occasion, your child may need to be absent from school.

Parents must provide an explanation for absences to the school within 7 days from the first day of any period of absence. Where an explanation has not been received within the 7-day timeframe, the school will record the absence as unjustified on the student's record. As part of school protocol you will be contacted by a staff member after two days of absence without explanation.

School Swimming and Water Safety Program

Students from year 2 and 3 have been able to attend Swim Scheme sessions, aimed at teaching young students the critical and possibly life saving skill of swimming.

We have been lucky to have Mr Dunn (assigned from the Department of Education) and our very own Mrs Susan Feld as our teachers, they explain the important movements and provide time to hone key swimming skills. With only three sessions down (out of ten), all students have displayed remarkable progress in their skills. Students have started with the foundational skills of entering the water safety, then moved onto floating and sculling and now learning kicking and freestyle.

Who knows, we might have the next Michael Phelps or Ian Thorpe in these very classes.

School Travel 2023

2023 school travel applications are now open

Applications for student travel in 2023 opened from Monday 10 October 2022.

Students who need a School Opal card or travel pass for 2023 can apply now. A new application will need to be submittedif they are applying for the first time, or if they are requesting an additional travel entitlement as a result of a newshared parental responsibility situation (e.g. joint custody).

Students who change address, school, campus location, have repeated a year or received an expiry notification fromTransport for NSW for their school travel entitlement should renew or update their details before the end of term 4. This will ensure that schools can endorse applications, and entitlements remain valid for the start of the 2023 school year. School Opal card holders will have the changes applied to their existing card.

If a student's distance eligibility has changed based on their grade (i.e. grade two to grade three), the system willautomatically update their entitlement if they meet the new criteria. If they do not meet the new eligibility criteria,we will send an expiry notification via email.

Students who have an entitlement approved under a medical condition that is due to expire will receive a notification advising them to re-apply.

Term Bus Pass holders will receive a notification to re-apply.

Students in the Opal network applying for an Opal card (including a Term Bus Pass) for the first time will receive their Student Opal card at their nominated postal address. Cards will be mailed out from January 2023.

Students living in rural and regional (R&R) areas should receive their travel pass at the start of the new school year from their nominated transport operator. It may come via the school or be sent directly to them at home. Note: some R&R operators do not issue travel passes. Students/parents should confirm with their nominated operator if theydo not receive a pass.

School travel application endorsement

Occasionally, applicants completing the online form make mistakes, so we ask that school administrators be mindful of this and only endorse applications with correct information.

If you identify an error, you can amend the first name, date of birth or grade of a student’s travel application by clicking in the relevant row on the portal. Please ensure you have confirmed the information before making any changes. Refer to page 16 of the School Portal User Guide for further instructions. The user guide is accessible within the School Portal by clicking the arrow next to your username. If a student’s details cannot be confirmed or they are not yet enrolled please do not endorse the application. By selecting ‘no’ the application will be rejected and the applicant will be informed. They will then need to submit a new application.

If a school administrator endorses an application in error, please advise our Concessions team as soon as possible here.

If school administrators require access to the School Portal, please request an account here.

If you need to remove school portal access for staff members who have left the school recently, please let us know via a feedback form and select ‘school/operator portal’ and then ‘remove existing user access’.

Transport Concession Entitlement Cards (TCECs)

Schools applying for Transport Concession Entitlement Cards (TCECs) for senior students are advised to submit applications at least four weeks before the end of Term 4. This will allow time for processing and delivery to the schoolbefore the holiday period commences. Applications scheduled for delivery during the holiday period will be held and delivered when school recommences from January 2023.When applying for TCECs before the end Term 4 2022, ensure you enter the grade the student is in this year, not the grade they will be in during 2023. E.g., year 11 students who have commenced year 12 studies are still considered as being in grade 11 until the end of 2022.

Travel from Term 1 2023

We ask that parents plan ahead and make sure their child knows which service/s to use and has a valid ticket to travel;either a School Opal card or Child/Youth Opal card (within Greater Sydney) or a School Travel Pass (outside GreaterSydney), from the start of the school year.

Applications for 2023 School Student Transport Scheme (SSTS) travel open at the start of Term 4 2022, so parents/students canapply or update details early and be ready for the start of the new school year.

Most students using the Opal network will not need a new Opal card and can continue travelling on their existing card each year.

The start of the year is a busy period for local transport operators, and students travelling without a valid ticket make service planning and operations difficult.

We recognise that for some families last minute changes to school enrolments mean they may not have a School Opal card orTravel Pass for the start of term. In the Opal network, we strongly encourage these families to have their children travelwith a Child/Youth Opal card until they receive their valid School Opal card. If outside Greater Sydney, parents should contacttheir local bus operator to discuss their travel needs.

Bus operators are flexible and understanding, particularly at the start of the school year, and will ensure students can travel safely to and from school. But to best support our operators we encourage all students to have a valid ticket, as early as possible, from the start of the school year.

Students using School Opal cards are also reminded that they must tap on and tap off in line with the Student code of conduct and Opal terms of use.

Update Your Details

Have you moved house? Do you have a new phone number or email address?

Please contact the school office to update any details that may have changed.

Visitor Check In

All parents/carers and visitors who enter the school grounds must check in at the front office. Please report to the office directly after entering the school gates. This is for the safety of all students and staff members.

If you wish to speak to a teacher, please contact the office and a time can be arranged for you.

Thank you for your co-operation.

Online Payments

There has been a bit of confusion when paying for certain events/activities/uniforms online.

The school events and activities are separate to the P&C run uniform shop.

If you are purchasing uniforms – this is to be paid to the P&C account – their details are on their price lists.

All other payments to the school for excursions/activities/sports etc are to be paid to the school account which the link is found on our school website.

https://goulburn-p.schools.nsw.gov.au/

then go to: MAKE A PAYMENT

There has been lots of mixed payments and it is making it difficult to reconcile accounts.  If you are unsure at all, please call the office on 48212827, and we can confirm for you.

We do not want any student to miss out on any activity due to payment not being received.
