From the Leadership Team

Message from the Leadership Team!

This term is traditionally a very busy term for teachers. In addition to data collected within the school, there are additional state wide assessments collected for the Department for Education.

In Junior Primary, the Phonics Screen for all Year 1 students will start in Week 3 running through to the end of Week 6. This screening check gives the school a good indication of how well students are learning to read. In week 7, Progressive Achievement Tests (PAT) testing starts for Years 1 to 6. This assessment occurs yearly and the data collected over the course of a child’s schooling gives teachers a good view of how students’ learning is progressing in Reading and Mathematics.

Be At School On Time

It is crucial to successful learning that students develop habits of regular attendance from an early age. It is important that children be at school. The benefits of daily attendance for students include the development of skills and attitudes of self-discipline, punctuality and organisation. There is an increased likelihood of being successful at school, positive social skills development and making friendships.

Did you know?

Missing one day a week of school from Reception to year 10 means missing the equivalent of two years and one term of education by the end of Year 10……..  20% of that child’s school education is lost.

Missing 5 days in each term from Reception to year 10 means missing the equivalent of more than a year's education ……..  10% of that child’s school education is lost.

·         Being 10 minutes late to school each day from Reception to Year 10

means missing the equivalent of 6 months of education by Year 10.

·         Being 20 minutes late to school each day from Reception to Year 10

means missing the equivalent of 12 months of education by the end of year 10.

SAPSASSA Basketball

On Tuesday, 9th August we travelled to The Lights Community and Sports Centre to compete in Boys and Girls SAPSASSA Basketball. The boys came second in their group with two wins, but sadly lost their next two games. The girls finished the day with 1 win and 1 draw.

It's great to compete in days like this and the students have gained lots of experience from it.

Fundraising - Colour Fun Run

Dear Parent/Guardian,

We will be holding the School Fun Run’s Crazy Colour Day as a major fundraising event this year on September 23rd! We’re doing it to raise much needed money for new computers and other technology.

About the Day

The Crazy Colour Day is all about Fun! It will be a huge colourful mess and is undoubtably one of the most exciting days on our school’s calendar, with everyone’s participation the aim, so please make sure they attend of the day and cheer the other kids on!

How Does My Child Fundraise?

Firstly, go to schoolfunrun.com.au and create a student profile page. Everything to do with your fundraising revolves around this page.

Students who raise just $10 will be able to choose a prize! The more they raise, the better their reward – don’t forget to check these out in the sponsorship form! We have educated students on the dangers of door knocking without supervision, and we encourage you to reiterate this at home. The great thing about online fundraising is that you can share the link to your child’s profile with friends and family via email, SMS and Social Media.

Online Fundraising

The easiest way to help your child raise money is through online fundraising, where students raise an average of $120. On top of raising more money, it’s also safer and easier than doorknocking and you don’t have to worry about handling money! To start fundraising online, go to your student profile page at schoolfunrun.com.au and share your online fundraising link.

Competition Time

To get our event off to a flyer, we’re starting our Colour Day with a super easy competition! The class with the most online profiles registered by 19th of August will win a reward for their class !  To help your child’s class win, simply create your profile at schoolfunrun.com.au.

Getting Involved

Not only can you support the school and students with your sponsorship – but you can join in on the fun! We would love to welcome parents and family members to attend the Crazy Colour Day. If you would like to volunteer on the day, please contact me on the details below.  I can’t wait to see you at our event!

Ordering Prizes – ALL PRIZES MUST BE ORDERED ONLINE

Please contact your school’s coordinator if this isn’t possible.

Prizes MUST be ordered between the 30th September and 20th of October. Simply visit schoolfunrun.com.au to create / log into your Profile Page between these dates.  Then click on the ‘CLAIM YOUR PRIZE’ button and follow the prompts. If you have any questions, please contact the School Fun Run team on 1800 FUN RUN and they will gladly assist
