From the Principal

Ms Pauline Shines On...

Ms Pauline, as you know, was a very special person to the Balmain Public School community. Not only did Ms Pauline support many students with their learning and mindfulness, she advocated for our Indigenous students.

Ms Pauline was also our very own Environmental Warrior, raising an awareness in our school, of the need for recycling, composting and sustainability. Her garden beds grew many a vegetable and herb, being sold back to our community, to continue the sustainability of the garden.

Our compost bins supplied copious amounts of nutritious 'worm wee', which again was quickly snapped up by our community. Of course, it goes without saying, that recycled bottles were used as containers for this project!

Head over to our Instagram account @balmainps for pics of yesterday's 'Going Green for Ms Pauline' mufti fundraising, as well as the for the (drumroll please) amount you so generously donated! You'll find this on the story (coloured circle).

Thank you to everyone who donned their greens, florals and gardening gear to turn each Balmain Public School classroom into a living, thriving garden yesterday...Ms Pauline's legacy lives on through our special garden! We ❤️ you!

Maria Lambos - Principal

LAST CALL OUT FOR VLOG CLIPS

Do you have some spare time over the weekend? You may like to consider contributing ?

As per a recent Skoolbag notification, we are creating a Vlog, or video log, to document and keep reflections of our students' time during the recent weeks of remote learning. This would be collated and published in a special edition of the Pigeon Post and placed on our website. This will not be included on our Instagram account.

Huge THANKS to the families that have already sent their child/ren's Vlog through to balmainps@gmail.com!

Before the memories start to fade, especially for our younger students, we ask that you record, preferably in landscape mode, your child responding to the following questions:

  • What have you enjoyed?
  • What were some challenges? (K-2 - What has been hard?)
  • What are some new experiences you have had for the first time?

The questions/responses can be recorded separately, if easier, and sent to balmainps@gmail.com with ATT: Mrs Lambos VLOG, child's name and class in the subject line, by Monday 29 June. Siblings may like to be recorded together.

We look forward to your videos and the creation of this unusual, yet special, keepsake of this unprecedented time!

Spotlight on...

K GUMNUT!!!!

Who would have thought maths could be so yummy! Last week, KG investigated the colours of skittles they found in a pack when learning about data. This week, KG made wriggly worms out of playdough and put classroom items in order from shortest to longest to learn about length.

We read “When I Grow Up” and KG wrote about what they wanted to be. We have some future archaeologists, rock stars, artists, cricket players, YouTubers, scientists and super heroes in the making!

In literacy, we also made words out of letter fans, practised our sight words and read some quality texts, during Daily 5!
