A Message From Mr Geerligs

Dear Parents Families and Friends

Are you Ready?

In Sunday’s Gospel (Luke 12: 32-40) Jesus gives us advice - “You too must stand ready”. Jesus is not trying to make us nervous or worried about when the “Son of Man is coming”, but to always be looking at doing what is right and doing your best.  He challenges us daily to be the type of person we know is best to be. St Mary of the Cross MacKillop also said something similar - “Never see a need without doing something about it”. It is also said that in every day, there are 1,440 minutes. That means we have 1,440 daily opportunities to make a positive impact. We can be ready for the future, by being the best we can in the present, we can make a positive impact.

Our Mini Vinnies sleepout is an example of how we can be the best we can in the moment. The students and staff who slept at school recently had an experience of selflessness. They gave up their comforts, gave up their devices and gave up their money all in the aid of others less fortunate. Thank you all, students, staff and for your generous donations, the Katoomba Chapter of St Vincent de Paul greatly appreciate all that St Canice’s does for those less fortunate.

To answer that question in the beginning - Yes I think every day we are ready -  when we love, show compassion and forgiveness towards others and ourselves. The St Canice’s family is a very giving and loving community. What a great school here on the top of the mountain (even when it snows!!)

Attendance Matters End Of School Day Student Pick-Up

Punctuality is very important at the end of the school day.

Whilst we recognise that there are often circumstances in life that are unavoidable and impact on punctuality children often get distressed if parents/ carers are late picking them up.

Teachers often have other commitments after school such as preparing for the next day's lessons or meeting with parents.

If you are delayed please notify the school as soon as possible on 4780 6800.

Thank you for working in partnership with the school.

At Home Numeracy Challenge

Mr. Slow is such a slow eater that when he eats peas, he eats only 1 pea at a time!

Guess what?

It takes him 20 seconds to chew and swallow just 1 pea.

If 48 peas are on his plate with his roast dinner, how long does it take him to eat all of his peas?

After his peas, Mr. Slow slowly begins eating 3 roast potatoes (each 1 takes 15 minutes to eat) and 2 pieces of lamb (each piece takes an hour to eat).

If he starts eating his dinner at 6:30 p.m., what time will he finish?

When you have your answers, write them down and bring them to Ms Honeyman in the Sunshine Room.
