PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE

Looking around at our community at our beautiful Room 6 assembly today, I was reflecting on how fortunate we are to be part of such a close-knit, supportive group of people. A visitor to the school this morning commented on how uniquely warm, open and encouraging the atmosphere felt here and I thank you for the role you all play in achieving this.

Huge thanks to those families that participated in our survey last term around the chaplaincy service offered at our school. Your feedback enables us to improve the service and ensure that our community is aware of what chaplaincy means for our school and how you can access the service for your child and/or family. See below for Will's message to our community.

We have two lots of exciting sporting news. Firstly, our wonderful Year 4/5 netball team is coming towards the end of a wonderfully successful season. Their last 3 games are to be held at the Matthew's Centre on 10th, 17th and 24th August at 8.40 am on Court 30. It would be amazing to get some of our families down there to support the team - this is a great opportunity for younger students to see what it's all about and perhaps join a team next season.

Secondly, our P&C has organised Scarborough PS team, Scarboro Kidz Rule, to participate in the upcoming City to Surf. Xavier did a great job in the assembly this morning of letting us know how challenging but worthwhile the experience is. This is a fantastic chance to get involved with your family along with other families from our school. See the information and link below to register.

In Week 5 we will be celebrating Book Week. Much information about this has gone home to families, particularly with regard to the dress-up and  The Great Book Swap. I strongly encourage you to get involved with The Great Book Swap. All proceeds for the event will be going towards the Indigenous Literacy Foundation, a charity that aims to lift the literacy levels and instil a lifelong love of reading in remote Indigenous communities across Australia. More information about the Foundation can be found here: https://www.indigenousliteracyfoundation.org.au/. We are excited to be supporting a cause which is close to our hearts.

Wishing all of our families a restful weekend.

Chaplain's Chat

Recently, Erica sent out a survey to the school community to explore how my role as a chaplain is understood at SPS. I really appreciated being invited in on some of that conversation, and being able to hear a little bit about how chaplaincy is supported and understood by all of you. I’m aware of how much it is a privilege to be invited in to support a school community and I wanted to say a brief thanks for allowing me to do the work that I do.

In response to some of the questions that came out of the survey, I’ve updated the Chaplaincy link on the school website [Click here ]. This will hopefully give a clearer picture of what my role is at SPS, and how school chaplaincy works. I’ve also created a flowchart which you can open up from that page. This chart should hopefully make it clearer how the referral system works, and how to contact me if you need to.

If you want to chat or would like to ask some more questions, please don’t hesitate to find me on a Monday or Thursday at school, or email me at will.veldman@youthcare.org.au to organise a time.

The Great Book Swap

The Great Book Swap takes place on Friday 23 August and we will be raising funds for the Indigenous Literacy Foundation. Students, parents and teachers may donate up to three books each, in good condition and suitable for primary aged students. Class room teachers will collect the donations by Thursday August 22. On the day of the stall, students will be able to purchase a book with a gold coin before and after the assembly on Friday morning. Once all students have purchased a book, there will be another opportunity to purchase extra books. After the assembly the whole school will sit on the oval, in their classes with parents, to read their new books.

All proceeds from the stall will be donated to the Indigenous Literacy Foundation.

Scarborough Primary P&C

Come and join the Scarborough Primary P&C conversations– hear what is happening with the school and how we can support our children in their school environment and build a greater connection with the broader community.

Currently we are looking for people to volunteer their time for leadership roles, for parents that are happy to liaise and connect with classrooms teachers and parent groups, and for any social media magicians that may be interested in keeping people up to date on happenings via Facebook.

To get in touch please email: scarboroughprimarypc@gmail.com or message us through our FB page (Scarborough Primary P and C), or join us at our next meeting on Tuesday 13 August at 6.00pm in the school staff room.

City to Surf

Run walk crawl... however you move your body, your school needs you! The Chevron City To Surf for Activ run is coming up soon - 25th of August. And it's so much fun going as a big team!

Register here as an individual, then specify in the team options that you are part of a team. https://perthcitytosurf.com/

The team name is "Scarboro Kidz Rule"

Request an invite from Maria, and follow the instructions from there.

Entering under this school team name automatically entitles you to 15% off enrolment which is calculated at the end.

Then start fundraising with your close family and friends. Every dollar raised goes directly to the school. Last year we raised $250... Lets smash it!
