Dear Parents & Community Members,

The School Board met for the final time on Monday evening and I once again extend my sincere appreciation for the support and direction this group provides for our school.  During the meeting, the Board examined Operational Plans for next year in the relevant focus areas, the school budget for 2023 and endorsed the 2023 Contributions and Charges schedule.  The Annual Report for 2022 will be released early next year which shall provide evidence against how the school has progressed in relation to current targets.

While teachers are in the final stages of preparing end of year reports, there has also been a significant amount of work undertaken by staff to ensure our school maintains the expected high standards .  I extend my appreciation to all staff involved in the preparation of plans, financial submissions and the draft budget.  This planning takes a significant amount of time, largely undertaken outside normal hours and provides the School Board with the confidence to endorse all documentation.

My sincere thanks to Vi Garrood, and Catherine Rudd, who concluded their respective terms on the School Board this year.  While these people are welcome to re-nominate, their current tenure on the Board has certainly been appreciated.  Vi has been the School Board Chair in 2022 and I would particularly like to acknowledge her support throughout the year.  Thanks also to Megan Moyle who has decided to resign her position on the Board given that her children will no longer be at our school.

Finally, the weather was not kind to us last week – here’s to a bumper Colour Blast this week.  Who can predict what our sky will do?  My sincere thanks to all those involved for being so flexible in making last minute changes.  Bring on the colour!

Lost Property

There is a large volume of lost property (mainly winter jackets) that remain unclaimed.  Tomorrow morning at the assembly, we will be placing all the lost property along the assembly area for parents to collect.  If the items are not claimed, we will be passing it on to the second-hand uniform shop.

Around Glengarry

Our Yarning Circle is Complete!

We were so lucky to have the wonderful Peter from Westate Paving to install our logs for our yarning circle in our nature play area for us last week.  They look fantastic and we appreciate all of his efforts in taking time out of his busy schedule to support our school.

The nature play area is slowly coming along and the students have enjoyed building cubbies each week.  We hope to have more building and imaginative play supplies for the area in the near future.

Rememberance Day - Room 11

Room 11 made ANZAC cookies on November 11 to mark Remembrance Day.  Obang and Mr Westley supported the groups in weighing out ingredients, mixing, and baking a selection of cookies to perfection.  We made some great connections with our studies in Design and Technology - acknowledging the amount of sugar that helped to preserve the cookies when transported from Australia to the battle fields all those years ago.

Solar Cookers - Room 9

On Tuesday, 15th November, Room 9 got to use the Solar Cookers they had designed in STEM this term.  Our goal was to make and melt Smores. We went into groups and researched, designed, and made our solar cookers, using materials that utilise the sun’s energy.

Tuesday was the perfect day to test our cookers because it was a hot and sunny day.  The temperature in some of the cookers reached around 70 degrees.  The chocolate and marshmallows melted perfectly.

Overall, it was a great day with delicious and tasty Smores.  Our solar cookers were a success.

Wonderful World of Work

Miss Cole was amazed with the very colourful artwork presented to her by Room 6 students.  More of this fantastic artwork is on display in the School Office.

Cricket Centurion

In his second game this season playing up a year in the Under 13's, Luke G scored a century for Sorrento Duncraig Junior Cricket Club.  Luke amassed 105 runs, with 17 fours off just 63 balls faced.  This is the third highest score in the Under 13's to Under 17's in the club's history.

The baggy cap was awarded to Luke from the club for his amazing innings.

Science Olympian

Recently Darren participated in the Siam International Science Olympics and was awarded a gold medal!

Darren will also be participating in the American International Science Olympiad “Copernicus” in two weeks time.

Health and Hygiene

Is your child feeling unwell?

If your child is unwell with cold and flu symptoms, please keep them at home and consider checking in with your GP if symptoms don't resolve.

HealthyWA also recommends seeking a COVID test for cold and flu symptoms.  See links below for more info.

Department of Health LINK

DoE LINK

As directed by our guidelines, we will ask for your child to be collected if they are displaying cold symptoms such as a cough, runny nose, fever etc.

We have a student at school who is immunocompromised.  This means they can potentially become gravely ill even when contracting a common cold/virus.  Please be mindful of sending students to school when they are unwell, as they may spread their infection.  Please speak with your GP/health professional and see the information in the links above re: advice about keeping your child at home when unwell.
