Term 1 Week 3, 2020

From the Principal's desk...

Dear Parents, Carers and Community,

Our collective hearts were bursting with pride this week as we held our official Leadership Induction Assembly for 2020. This is a time when we stop to honour the leadership within our school and we badge our Student Executive Teams elect for the year. It was lovely to see our students being badged by their family members and to hear them recite their pledges to leadership with such confidence. On stage were our School Captains, Vice Captains, Prefects, Sport House Captains, Parliamentarians and Library Monitors. We congratulate each and every one of them at this proud time in their life.

In an age where leadership no longer is defined by conformity, but rather by one’s capacity to disrupt, we are excited about what lies ahead for our young leaders. In our School Management Plan this year we are focusing on self-reflection skills, effective feedback and student voice. We are devising new ways for our students to have their say, for ideas to be collected and to be actioned. We are reviewing our Student Parliament processes and will be including student voice from every classroom in our plan. Yasmin Cately was so impressed with our assembly and the importance that we put on the democratic process in leadership at our school. We are growing amazing leaders, future global citizens that will serve our community and our amazing country well.

On Wednesday 19th February our Captain and Prefects elect will travel to Biddabah Public School to participate in the annual Regional North Leadership Day. They will engage with a Key Note Speaker on the day and will participate in a series of workshops aimed at building their skills in Leadership. Mrs Turnbull and I are presenting on the day and will be with our students all day.

Congratulations to our four tennis players who attended zone Trials this week. Maddison H, Sienna H, Liam S and Jarrah L represented themselves, their school, their families and their tennis coaches with pride! Congratulations to Maddison who will move forward to Regional Trials in the next few weeks.

Thank you for being so prompt in your responses to forming scripture, ethics and ‘Switched on 4 Life’ classes. We are so pleased that our Ethics Team have been able to give us 8 lessons a week this year which helps to satisfy the demand. We are also so grateful to have our scripture teachers returning to offer a quality SRC program and to have ‘Switched on4 Life’ come on board to offer a third choice in personal wellbeing. Don’t forget that you can access Active Kids Voucher $100 to pay for this course in the school. This is available through Service NSW

In terms of wellbeing we will be offering a full year’s program, staged to capture certain age groups for the amazing program ‘Seasons for Growth’. Mrs Lawson and Mrs Vale are trained to deliver this

In order to keep our community informed we will be holding some information sessions around: Matific, Literacy Pro, Literacy Planet, Power of Assessment, Learning and Support Processes and High Potential and Gifted Education. These sessions will be held in the first week of March. More information will come home soon.

I am looking forward to seeing you at our Parent Information sessions next week, where you will have an opportunity to engage with your Assistant Principal and class teacher.
