We are, after a very disrupted term, suddenly at the conclusion of Semester One. Despite this interruption, learning recommenced quickly and both staff and students are back into routines. I also observe with pleasure that the daily attendance rate of students is high. This is essential after missed classes, and I hope and trust we can carry this through the remainder of the year. I wish you a safe school holiday when it arrives.

We have had the privilege of easing back into ‘normal’ classes with a shortened timetable. However, from the beginning of Term 3 our school day will begin at 8:45am and conclude at 3:05pm.
There have been quite a few small but significant changes throughout Semester One. Here are just a few:
the introduction of a gym - for use both before and after school, as well as being incorporated into PDHPE practical lessons
renovation of two of the technology classrooms
creating a student-friendly Year 12 space at the top of the school.
We envisage more updates throughout the year that will build a student-centred learning and social environment.

As I passed through classes last week, I was stopped by a discussion in our Year 7 Geography class. The topic was “water scarcity”. My mind immediately went to rural Australia which has been, and many parts continue to be, in desperate drought. Mrs Lee invited students to explain their ideas about water scarcity. The first student spoke about Sierra Leone; the second about Syria. What fantastic responses! As I wrote last time, Delany is a richer community because of our differences and it was a privilege (and somewhat humbling) to listen to students’ life experiences far different than my own.
Year 11 Semester reports were posted to families last week. If you have not received your child’s copy please contact the College. Reports for students in years 7 to 10 are being finalised this week, with a view to send them home by the end of the term. Although COVID-19 has restricted our ability to conduct parent/teacher interviews this term, you are invited and encouraged to contact our teaching staff to discuss the results on these reports.
