It is hard to believe that we have reached the half way point of Term 1 already. Last week was swimming week for the Reception to Year 5 students and I was lucky enough to be able to see the students in action at the pool on several occasions. It was also lovely to receive feedback from the swimming instructors that our students were positive and upheld our school values while at the pool. This is something I see every day at school, and is a credit to the students, staff and families of the Dernancourt School community. A reminder to check through your swimming gear to make sure all items are yours. We have a few students with items of clothing that have been misplaced, and we are hoping that they may have turned up in someone else’s washing! Appreciate your support.
Over the last few weeks, staff have been working together to moderate student writing. This has involved working in teams to compare and discuss different aspects of writing, such as grammar, vocabulary, punctuation, spelling and structure. Moderating student work together supports the development of consistent teaching practice across classrooms and provides teachers with the opportunity to work together to determine clear next steps for teaching and learning in their classrooms.
Staff are working together to plan for a few of our upcoming events. Over the next few weeks, we will celebrate Harmony Day, have a Pupil Free Day and the much-anticipated Sports Day. These dates are listed in the ‘Dates to Remember’ section of the newsletter.
Lastly, I ask you all a favour. I am often on duty at the crossing or Junior Primary gate before and after school and have noticed that (and I know you are all aware), drop off and pick up times are very busy. Please can I ask that you adhere to the parking restrictions and road rules, particularly regarding U-turns and speed in the school zone to help keep our students and community members safe. Thanks!
I hope you all enjoy the long weekend with your families, and I look forward to hearing from the students about some of their adventures and activities when we return.
