Parent Chats

Many thanks to the parents and carers who attended and actively took part in the Parent Chat sessions held recently. Your input and discussion was highly valued and I was able to gain some great insights into the parent perspective of Dudley PS and where to lead our wonderful school into the future. I appreciate the time that everyone dedicated to this process. There will be further sessions held throughout the beginning of next year to further explore opportunities to improve our students’ learning.

Christmas Carols

We will be hosting our Christmas Carols Community event on Thursday 1 December on the court area of our playground. The evening will commence at 5pm and run for approximately 2 hours. Families are welcome to bring a picnic rug and some food and enjoy the Christmas carols that each class has been rehearsing, in between class performances will be the opportunity for everyone to sing along to some Christmas classics. As this activity is a school coordinated family friendly event we remind everyone that there will be no alcohol or pets allowed.

School Playground Update

A community notification was released today regarding planned works for Phase 2 of the playground remediation works from the Department of Education. Work will commence on the sloped grass area to the western side of our playground. During these works the school site will be closed off to all community access. Apologies for the inconvenience that this creates for some families.

Mobile Muster Film Competition

Film Competition Winners

At the end of last term, 2M entered a film competition that focused on being sustainable by recycling old mobile phones.

We were named as finalists and in very exciting news, found out last week that we had won the Mobile Muster Film Competition for 2022!!!

This was a national competition and we have won $3000 to spend on technology for our school. To say we were excited would be a massive understatement!

You can view our winning video here: https://vimeo.com/764789584

Our Mobile Muster Film by 2M

We had been learning about changes we can make that help the environment.

We were also doing persuasive writing. This competition was a mix. The theme was The Science of Recycling.

We all tried to think of our ideas. We decided to focus on being an everyday hero and have the actors dress up as a superhero.

We split into teams. We had artists who drew pictures and took photos. The researchers found facts about recycling phones.

There was also a video editing team who were creating information parts and adding special effects.

The scriptwriters wrote scripts about how a recycling hero could step in. Everyone who wanted to be an actor could have a turn. Some people didn’t want to and some people were in more than one team.

We filmed on iPads and the video editors created slides of information. We really needed to collaborate to make sure that everyone worked together.

It was a bit disappointing that we could only include a few seconds of each script. The competition rules said we only had 60 seconds!

We edited special hero effects and made the music sound ominous.

We wanted people to know it was important.

We were so excited to be finalists.

We made Mrs Mullins check heaps of times every day to see when the winners were announced.

It was really amazing to win!

We are really proud of ourselves. This is a big deal! $3000 is a lot of money.

Mrs M let us have some time to look at the things we could buy.

We thought lap tops, smart scales, board games or VR goggles would all be really cool.

We’d like to get a drone so that next year we can make a better entry.

We hope you like our video.

PACER Rebate

Year 6 students from our school recently went on an education tour of the national capital. Students were given the opportunity to participate in a variety of educational programs with a focus on Australia’s history, culture, heritage and democracy.

The Australian Government recognises the importance of all young Australians being able to visit the national capital as part of their Civics and Citizenship education. To assist families in meeting the cost of the excursion the Australian Government contributed funding of $30 per student under the Parliament and Civics Education Rebate program towards those costs. The rebate was paid directly to the school upon completion of the excursion and was factored in to the price to reduce the cost to families.

We hope that all students found this to be a most valuable experience.

Library

End of year library procedures.

This week, week 7 is the final week for borrowing.

All books must be returned by the end of week 8 so that I can complete stock take and prepare the collection for next year.

Overdue notices went home last week, thank you to the many students who returned their books.

There are still quite a few outstanding loans so it would be wonderful to see them returned by the end of next week.

If your child thinks they have returned a book they are welcome to pop into the library during lunchtime on Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday and I will help them to look for it.

Ms. Dunne.

Mini Carnival Success!

Last Friday our amazing SRC organised a mini carnival as a fundraiser for our 'end of year' class celebrations. The carnival was a huge success with stalls such as sock wrestling, zooper doopers, nail painting, lucky dip and the most popular by far.... SOAK THE TEACHERS!!! The students all had an absolute 'blast' (excuse the pun) and we raised a whopping $1,100!

Thank you to Mrs Winter and her team for all their hard work! SRC you are legends!!

Garbage Guardians

Even though it’s almost the end of the year, our Garbage Guardians are still on the lookout for students doing the right thing.

Congratulations to our most recent prize winner, Frankie S in 1M, for regularly ensuring that she empties the contents of her food packets into the green bin before placing her packaging in the soft plastics bin.

Well done, Frankie!

Garbage Guardians 2023 - This week, Mrs Adams and Mrs Mullins will be providing information about how Year 4 students can apply to become a Garbage Guardian in 2023.

Garbage Guardians do duties each week to monitor our bin system and have the chance to make announcements at fortnightly assemblies.

We are after students that are reliable, enthusiastic, show a passion for the environment and are wanting to make a real difference.

If current Year 4 students are after a leadership role next year, this is a wonderful opportunity.

Garden Club

We have been busy bees planting in the garden!

A big thank you to one of our fathers, Adam, who has donated a wide range of vegetable seedlings to fill out our remaining garden beds.

Our cucumbers and radishes are flourishing!

Final preparations are underway for our official garden opening, next Friday 2nd December at our school assembly at 11.35am.

We are excited to host special guests from Lake Macquarie City Council and Hunter Water who have provided funds to support this new green space.

Please come along and celebrate with us. All welcome!

Mrs Adams and Mrs Mullins
