Principal's Message

KISS 'N' RIDE SAFETY

We’re in the midst of a wet week and while I know there’s a saying about that, we have been so thankful that our new school design included covered walkways from the front gate through the entire school. Even just a few short months ago, during construction, the Bell St entrance was a long walk across the oval.

Not just because it’s wet, but every day, I will appeal to parents and community to please be patient in the Bell St Kiss ‘n' ride zone. Even though the street is narrow, the Kiss ‘n' ride system works well when we all work together.  Be patient, stay in line and please do not queue across our neighbour’s driveways.

TERM 1 2021 CHANGES

We have been advised there will now be two scheduled School Development Days at the start of Term 1, 2021 (Wednesday 27 January and Thursday 28 January). Students in Years 1-6 will return on Friday 29 January 2021. Students beginning Kindergarten will start Wednesday 3 February, with Best Start Interviews being conducted Friday 29 January – Tuesday 2 February.

SCHOOL ORGANISATION 2021

We are currently in the planning process for 2021. If you are intending on relocating in 2021 or prior, could you please inform the office. This will assist with our planning. If you have a child starting Kindergarten in 2021 and have yet to enrol, please speak to the front office.

ATTENDANCE

If your child is absent from school please ensure that as parents and carers you are providing an explanation regarding the absence. This can be done by either replying to the text message that is sent out each day or by contacting the school.

KINDER ORIENTATION

Kinder orientation is on track to begin as planned next Friday 6 November. In a Covid-safe manner, we have staggered drop-off and pick-up times to avoid having large groups of parents together at the one time. Communication has been sent out to parents with the allocated time for your child.

While we are unable to have parents on-site, we are able to use the hall as the key drop of and pick-up location. Parents will be able to enter via Bell St and walk up the zig-zag path to the hall door.

PBL SIGNAGE

We have been very excited to see our new PBL signage being installed in the school. Our PBL signage supports positive student behaviour through expectation reminders in the different areas of the school. Jointly funded with our P&C, it also includes the Mac figures along the zig-zag path promoting safe, respectful, responsible achievers.

Have a great week.

Parents and Citizens Update

Hello SPPS families,

Congratulations to the winners of our Book Week Raffle;

Cooper Watkins, Mariel Maldonado-Sullivan and Riley Birrell.

And a huge thanks to the Lake Mac Speers Point Library for the fantastic donation of book packs for prizes. We had a fantastic turnout for the parade and a great response to our very first fundraiser of the year.

SPPS P&C Cookbook – Coming Soon!

The final edits are being made on our very own family recipe book, so keep an eye out in the kids bags this week for a ‘pre-order’ form. It is one form per family and the best bit is you save $3 per book if you pre-order before November 20th. After that, the price will be $20 per book.

We are still taking advertising from local & school family businesses, with a small advert starting at $50. Please let us know if you have the desire to splash your business details all over our humble little book – email Megan on speerspointpublicschool-pres@pandcaffiliate.org.au

P&C Meeting

Join us via Zoom on Monday November 9th at 6:30pm.

One of the HOT topics for the next meeting is an Online/App ordering system for the Canteen.

Would your family benefit from switching to this system?

Have your say at the next meeting. The full agenda & link to the zoom meeting will be published on our Facebook page shortly.
