From the Acting Principal

Dear Parents and Caregivers,

Welcome back, I hope you had an opportunity to change the routine a little and managed some time to relax and spend time with your children. I would like to thank those of you who have taken the time to complete the survey in the newsletters last term. Your feedback is important to us and will help provide valuable information in the External School Review Process  which will occur on Monday 5th and Tuesday 6th August.

The purpose of the external Review is to provide information that will contribute to the department’s strategic plan to have ‘the best education system in Australia through achieving growth for every child in every class in every school’

The External Review is an evidence-informed external evaluation of our school’s capacity to improve student learning. The review will strengthen our focus on learning by providing an expert external perspective to verify or challenge our internal self-review processes and findings, investigate the rigour of our improvement practices and our school’s capacity to achieve or sustain learning improvement over time.

The External School Review is a transparent process which usually occurs every three years, however, our last review was completed in 2015. The External School Review seeks information through an on-site visit to our school over two days by a Review Officer and a Review Principal. During this time, I will provide a presentation for the Review Officer and Review Principal, take them on a tour of our school and Campus, attend our Staff Meeting and Governing Council Meeting, interview our teachers, SSO’s, groups of students and parents. They will have the opportunity to visit classrooms and once they have gathered enough evidence and information they will provide us with a written report which will provide us with formal directions in which our school will need to implement over a three-year period. The implementation of the directions in the report are the responsibility of all members of the school community and the report that I provided is a public document which will be posted on our school website once it has been approved.

If you would like to participate in this exciting process, you can do so by completing the attached surveys and attending the Governing Council Meeting which has been scheduled for Monday 5th August at 7.00 pm in the Thiele staffroom. If your child is selected to meet with the Review Officer or Review Principal, you will be provided with a permission form which will need to be returned no later than Friday 2nd August.

Your children are the centre of everything we do and we aspire to improve student learning outcomes for every student. I look forward to receiving your feedback from the surveys.

There was a quiz and many games involved such as jan ken pon (rock, paper scissors in Japanese) and kendama (a traditional Japanese toy). The students had a wonderful time and Thiele students were in a teams that placed 3rd. Congratulations to these students and we look forward to participating next year. We would also like to say a big thank you to the lovely parent volunteers that allowed this event to happen.

In Week 10, almost all year 7 students attended the highly anticipated Japanese dinner at Ginza Japanese restaurant in Unley. Bowker St Soccer Carnival - Volunteers Needed

On the Monday 12th  of August Campus will be hosting the U8 Bowker Street Soccer Carnival.

As most of you will have had a chance to experience the carnival with your son or daughter participating in the U9, U10 or Senior carnivals before this date you will know what a big event this is.

Our Campus Events Committee will be in charge of coordinating this event for us and we would love to have parent volunteers to assist on the BBQ and in the canteen. This is potentially our biggest fundraising opportunity for the year.

If you are available on the 12th from 6.00 pm to 8.00 pm to help please let me know ASAP via email so we can start coordinating a roster.

 Many thanks in advance

Bianca

Campus Performing Arts Showcase

Campus Performing Arts Showcase will be held in on Thursday 15th August (Week 4). There will be a Matinee (1.30 pm) and an Evening Performance (6.30 pm). Forms are/were sent home in Week 1 with all the details, ticket orders, permission slips for participating students, etc., so please keep an eye out for this and return it as soon as possible to the Campus Office. If your child is not participating but you would still like to attend, please see Bianca in the Campus Office.

Auditions for individual and small group acts were held in Performing Arts lessons during the final weeks of last term, with over 60 students auditioning for just 11 performance slots. As you can imagine, the competition was fierce with some wonderful students sharing some spectacular talents! Students were advised in Week 10 of last term as to whether they won a position this year. Congratulations to those who were successful, and I encourage all students who did not win a place this year to keep on honing their skills and to take up every opportunity to audition and perform in the future.

We look forward to sharing this exciting event with you in Week 4!
