Term 1 Week 10 2022

Acknowledgement of Country

We would like to acknowledge Goulburn as an important meeting place that was inhabited, at first contact with Europeans, by the Gundungurra and Ngunawal people who are the traditional custodians of this land. We would like to pay respect to Elders both past, present and future, also extending that respect to other Aboriginal people present today on the land in which we meet, work and live.

News from the South

Dear parents/carers

COVID requirements

If you need to self-isolate or your child/ren tests positive for COVID-19 please advise the school so that we can mark attendance accordingly. If students are well enough, they can work flexibility through the Departments online learning website pasted below.

https://education.nsw.gov.au/teaching-and-learning/learning-from-home/learning-at-home/2022-digital-learning-packs/primary

Students can upload samples of their work to teachers via seesaw. Please don’t hesitate to contact the office when required. If you need any more RAT tests please phone the office to organise them to be sent home.

On Monday evening the Minister signed the Public Health Order Amendment (No 1) Order 2022. The amendment (COVID-19 Self-Isolation) Order exempts a person who is a close or household contact from the requirement to self-isolate if the person has had COVID-19 in the previous 12 weeks (up from the previous 8 weeks).

This means that if a student or staff member who has recovered from COVID-19 comes into contact with someone with COVID-19 within 12 weeks after they are released, they will generally not need to self-isolate or get a test. They can continue to go to school or work unless they have new COVID-19 symptoms.

Easter Hat Parade and donations

We will be holding our Easter Hat Parade on the last day of Term 1, Friday 8th April 2022. The parade will be held under the COLA commencing at 11:30. Families are invited to bring along a picnic lunch to share with their students at the end of the parade.

Students are asked to create their Easter hats at home, bringing them along on the day to wear. (A safe place will be provided in each classroom for hat storage on the day.)  Students can wear suitable casual clothing and footwear for the day.

Classes have been having a little competition for who has the most Easter donations. Please remember to return any unsold raffle tickets to the school.

School holiday break

As this will be the final newsletter of the term, I would sincerely like to thank the students, staff and community for welcoming me so warmly into my first term here at GSPS. The students have been respectful, responsible and resilient. They have been working hard in classrooms and I am especially proud of our new leadership team.

The staff here at GSPS have been flexible and adaptable with the constant changes that occurred over the term due to the isolation requirements and at times, lack of staff. Our front office team and SLSO's have been an asset to our operation and I thank them for going above and beyond to help our families.  I cannot thank the entire team enough for their ongoing support and the way they care for our students.

I have slowly been able to meet the community and I would also like to thank you all for your support, understanding and communication. We have a wonderful P&C committee who keep the students at the forefront of their decisions and I am thankful for their support. I wish everyone a restful and safe holiday break. We are looking forward to Term 2! The first day back for students will be Wednesday 27 April.

Kind regards,

Emily Morrow

Clean Up Australia Day

Clean Up Australia Day inspires and collaborates with communities and schools to clean and conserve our environment.

On Friday 4th March, Goulburn South Public School participated in Clean Up Australia. Each class went into our playground to collect rubbish and learnt about the importance of preserving our environment.

A great day was had by all and we appreciate all students and staff helping to make our school look beautiful!

5/6GB Newsletter

5/6GB are composing and editing well-structured and coherent texts through the '7 Steps to Writing Success' program. 5/6GB have been creative and effective at writing sizzling starts. With all the rain around at the moment, 5/6GB described the subject of rain with the skill of 'sizzling starts' to entertain our audience walking through our hallway. All students should be proud of their efforts and work samples during this unit of work.

Trial of the new English and Maths syllabuses

The NSW Government is reforming the curriculum from Kindergarten to Year 12 by 2024. English and Mathematics K-2 are the first syllabuses to be released.

Goulburn South Public School is excited to be a ‘Self-Select’ school. This means we have volunteered to lead by trialling the new English and Mathematics syllabuses with our 1/2F class throughout 2022. Our school is always proud to be a step ahead, and we saw this as a wonderful opportunity to prepare ourselves for the coming changes.

As a ‘Self-Select’ school, we have early access to the latest professional learning for our staff, as well as the new units of work and K-2 resources as they are released over the course of the year.

We provide feedback on our experience of implementation. The materials provided to all other schools next year will have been refined through the feedback and insight of Self-Select schools.

These new English and Mathematics K-2 syllabuses will be taught in all NSW schools from 2023.

This term, Miss Fennamore (1/2F Class Teacher) and Mrs Copland (Assistant Principal, Curriculum and Instruction) have worked together to co-plan, co-teach and co-evaluate the new lessons with 1/2F. With almost one term finished, the students and teachers are excited about the quality teaching and learning that they are experiencing.
