St Mary's Bulletin

Term 3 - Week 5 (21 August, 2020)

From the Principal

Dear St Mary's School Community

Science Week

This week was National Science Week and the theme was 'Deep Blue:  innovation for the future of our ocean'. The week began with an assembly on Tuesday to set the scene and explain the many concepts within the theme.  The students completed various activities focussing on the marine biology and conservation theme during the their Science/STEM time.  A snapshot of these can be found on our Instagram page.  Thank you to Mrs Sonya McCormack for all her hard work in bringing Science Week alive at St Mary's School.

Assembly

This morning's assembly was capably led by our Head Boy Charlie and Head Girl Zoe.  We heard about all the wonderful work the students have been doing in class and celebrated those who received awards.  Thank you to all the those who joined us - it was great to see so many of our parents and grandparents at school.

Pyjama Day

Pyjama Day on Wednesday was a big success with many of the teachers taking the opportunity for their class to do wellness activities also.  We raised $214.40 for Mary Mackillop Today a fundraising organisation run by the Sisters of St Joseph of the Sacred Heart.

Strategic Plan

St Mary’s School is in the process of renewing and updating our Strategic Plan (the current one expires this year).  The School Board has engaged Caroline Robinson from WBN to assist us with this process.  Community input and engagement is an important part of this process – if you would like to have a say in the future direction of our school then please join us in the Library on Monday, 31st September at 6.30pm.  Refreshments will be provided.

Catholic Leave Day

Next Monday we will be having our Catholic Leave Day.  This day is a good will gesture in recognition of the extra hours that those who work in Catholic schools give to attend co-curricular activities.  Enjoy the bonus long weekend with your children!

Year Six Camp

I will be joining the Year Six students on their camp to Point Peron next Tuesday to Friday along with Mrs McDonald and Mr James Kermode.  Mrs Grant and Miss Walsh will be responsible for the school on Tuesday afternoon and Mrs O’Malley for the remainder of the week.  We will attempt to post about our adventures every night on Instagram so make sure you are following us @stmarysschoolmerredin

Choir

I am disappointed to have to let you know that Choir will not be going ahead for 2020.  We had planned to proceed with reduced numbers, but unfortunately, due to personal reasons the lady who was going to run the Choir has had to rescind her commitment.  The aim is that Choir will go ahead in 2021 – fingers crossed!  Thank you so much to those children who were keen to be a part of the St Mary’s Choir this year.

Specialist Group Photos

On photo day speciality group images (Year Six Leavers, Ministries, Bus and Library Monitors etc) were taken at our school. These images can be viewed and purchased at a unique website, which is DIFFERENT to where you order the portraits and class photos online.  The online orders for these photos will be open until midnight on Sunday 23rd August, 2020. After this date the photos will still be available online but will incur an extra fee. Please see the below link for instructions on viewing and ordering these photos.

Phase 5 Restrictions

The Premier’s announcement on Tuesday that he will not be easing Phase 4 restrictions until October 24 will continue to impact on our school calendar and operations.  Family Friday and Children’s Liturgy will not occur this term.  It is envisaged that all other events will go ahead while keeping in line with all physical distancing requirements.  Information about each event will come out prior to the event date.

God Bless and have a lovely weekend with your families,

Ms Adriana Coniglio

Principal
