Principal's Message

Back on Deck

It was so nice to be back on deck this week, especially to join in and be a part of the Education Week/Book Week activities. I won’t lie, it was great to step away from my role and have an extended break. The last two and half years have taken a toll on all of us in different ways, but those 2 extra weeks holidays have helped me to refresh and recharge the batteries and I am feeling re-energised and excited for the 2nd half of the year. My thanks to Mrs Saunders who relieved for me in Weeks 1 and 2 and to Miss O’Connor who relieved for Mrs Saunders as the Stage 1 Assistant Principal. The school operated well in their safe hands. There’s lots to look forward to in the months ahead and I cannot wait to invest my rekindled energy in a number of upcoming projects.

Illness and the school community

As I am sure you are aware, illness has continued to impact many teachers, students and their families throughout the Winter period. This has led health and school authorities to take a very cautious approach to the start of this term. Schools are being encouraged not to plan too many major school events which will bring additional visitors on-site (thus increasing the risk of transmitting illness). Any events that are planned, need to have sensible covid smart measures in place. This is the reason why we asked visitors to wear masks for the open classrooms/book week parade on Tuesday and also why staff and visitors are asked to wear masks for indoor assemblies. I cannot thank the community enough for cooperating with us on this. Please remember the key messages for this term:

a)   If your child is unwell, they should not come to school and undertake a RAT test as a precaution

b)  If your child is a household contact for someone who has Covid-19, they may come to school, but first you must notify the school, they must return a negative RAT test each morning before coming to school (for 7 days) and it is recommended that they wear a mask

Zone Athletics

Good luck to those students who are attending the zone athletics carnival this coming Friday. We wish you all the best as you compete in your events.

Have a great week.

Students of the Week - Term 3 Wk 3

Congratulations to the following students who were selected as the Junior and Senior students of the week for their work during Week 3 this term.

Book and Education Week 2022

We had a wonderful day last Tuesday 2 August, celebrating the value of books within our community and the quality teaching and learning that occurs at Lambton Public School.

The children and LPS staff had a fabulous time and appreciated your involvement. If you were unable to visit the school in the morning, we hope you were able to participate through the excitement of your children and their retelling of the day.

Thank you to all the parents and families who supported the day by assisting with your child’s book character costume, purchasing books from the book fair, ordering a special lunch, participating in the open classrooms or attending the book character parade.

Carnival Fairs supplied our book fair again this year. The children really enjoyed the experience of having a book shop in our library.

As a percentage of books sold, LPS was able to purchase $1,290 worth of books for our library from Carnival Fairs. All those books will be available for students to borrow this term. Your continued support of this valuable event and fundraiser for our school is greatly appreciated.

The winners of the book week colouring in competition were- Natalia Kajtez, Quinlan Bartlett, Flynn Boardman and Scarlett Hughes. Congratulations.

Premier's Reading Challenge 2022

The Premier’s Reading Challenge (PRC) will end shortly.

Students need to have completed the challenge by the closure date of Friday, 19 August.

Students from Years 3-6 are required to enter their books online themselves, then bring the completed form (with parent signature) to the library.

If they need assistance, they can come to the library at 2nd half lunch.

K-2 children have already completed the challenge at school through enjoying a wide variety of Premier’s Reading Challenge books in the library and in their classroom. Their PRC books have been entered online for them.

School Band

It was lovely to hear our school band perform at last week's school assembly.  They are a small group of hard-working musicians and they sounded fantastic. Following on from our successful Band Open Day last term, Mrs Saunders is busy following up with families of students who expressed interest in joining our school band and many students have borrowed an instrument and are getting to know their instruments before joining the band very soon.

We are so pleased the band have finally had the opportunity to perform after their hard work during recent periods of lockdown and look forward to enjoying more performances at upcoming events.

Assembly Week 5

Thank you to the families who joined us last Thursday for our assembly led by 1B. Our next assembly to be held on Thursday 18 August will be led by 5/6N. During this assembly students will be presented with ribbons from our recent Athletics Carnival and awards presented to Junior and Senior Athletics Champions. Parents are invited to attend. If you are attending, please be prepared to check-in with the QR Code provided and to wear a mask.

Athletics Carnival – Kindergarten to Year 2

Unfortunately, due to the uncertainty of the weather on the day and the state of the grounds at the Fearnley Dawes Athletic Centre, we were unable to have most of our Kindergarten to Year 2 students join us for our recent Athletics Carnival.

Payment of $10.00 made by families for their child to attend the Athletics Carnival will be refunded to family accounts and remain as ‘Unallocated Credit’ to be used for another school excursion or activity in the future. Families wishing to have these funds refunded should contact the office and a refund can be easily arranged.

Please note these funds can be used for school events only and not allocated towards Canteen purchases or P & C events such as the disco.

Kindergarten 2023

Emails were sent to all families who have enrolled their children for Kindergarten next year with details of our Orientation Program. We are currently putting the final touches on the program but are pleased to advise the following dates have been scheduled.

Thursday 3 November9:30 am - 10:45 am or 11:30 am - 12:45 pm
Thursday 17 November9:30 am - 10:45 am or 11:30 am - 12:45 pm
Thursday 1 December9:30 am - 10:45 am or 11:30 am - 12:45 pm

The aim of the program is to give children an early understanding of the school’s routines and its physical layout and for students to become comfortable within the school environment and meet some friends with whom they will be attending school in 2023.

If you or a friend/neighbour have a child starting school next year, now is the time to ensure we have their details so we can share important information with them regarding our Orientation program and how to finalise their enrolment.

Headlice

The school has been informed in the past two weeks of ongoing cases of headlice, particularly in our younger classes. Headlice is one of those things that can cause ongoing inconvenience to students and their families. To help us get on top of this early, could we kindly ask all families to conduct a quick visual check of their child’s hair this weekend for headlice? If treated early, we may be successful in reducing the spread of headlice in individual classes. Thank you in advance for your assistance.

P & C News

The Colour Fun Run

This coming Tuesday, we will be distributing sponsorship forms via students for the colour fun run which is scheduled to take place on the last day of this term, Friday 23 September. To assist our fundraising efforts, we are asking the students to seek sponsorship from family members, friends and neighbours. For every $5 raised in sponsorship, students will have one ticket with their name on it placed in the draw to win a range of fabulous prizes. The more sponsors students obtain, the more chances they have of winning a prize in the prize draw, and of course the more money raised for the school. More information about the colour fun run will be shared soon, but for now, please keep an eye out on Tuesday for the sponsor forms.
