Dear parents/carers,
Last week we held our Book Week parade. It was great to be able to celebrate a school activity with parents on site once again. Thank you to everyone who supported the Book Week celebration and for Mrs Sadler for organising the Book Week activities. Later in the term we will celebrate Education Week with open classrooms and an art exhibition. Once again parents will have the opportunity to visit classrooms and to view the art exhibition.
A reminder that students should wear correct uniform to school. The uniform shop operates on site each Wednesday morning between 8.30 and 9.30am, parents can visit to purchase items or to order online. Wearing correct uniform fosters a sense of pride and community. We thank parents for supporting our uniform policy and sending students to school in correct uniform.
We celebrated our Term 1 & 2 Principal Award winners with a special treasure hunt today. Students from each class are selected each fortnight to receive an award for showing they are consistently helpful, safe and respectful learners. Well done to all of the Term 1 & 2 award winners. Thank you to captains Karma and Mysha and SRC senior representatives Ira and Ayush who assisted with the treasure hunt.

To celebrate Science week, preschool children have been involved in experiments. Children were involved in a volcano and skittle experiment. Children watched as Mrs Akamatis placed the skittles in a circle on the plate. She poured water into the middle of the circle and we waited and watched what happened. The children were so excited to see the colour coming off the skittles and making a rainbow.
We made a volcano with sand and a water bottle. We put bicarbonate soda inside the bottle. We added vinegar with colour to the bicarbonate Soda and watched the reaction. Children were so excited to see the chemical reaction as the red colour was oozing out of the volcano.
By involving children in experiments, it helps children predict what might happen and develop curiosity and enthusiasm for learning (EYLF Outcome 4).

Book Character Parade was held on Wednesday 24th August on the school grounds. It was a beautiful sunny day and the Parade was a success.The students looked wonderful in their book character costumes as well as the teachers.

Our students were full of enthusiasm and encouragement for each other at the zone athletics carnival, which was held last week.
They all tried their best and were very helpful and respectful.
It was lovely to see the support from parents on the day.

Regular attendance at school is important for students at our school to reach their full potential. The Learning and Support team are looking very closely at attendance and parents will receive a letter to explain how many days their child has been absent for in the past 10 week period.
Currently we have 137 students whose attendance is below 85%. 85% attendance equals 30 days (6 weeks) of absences across the school year.
Students with more than 95% attendance will receive a Penny Possum ticket with their letter in celebration of their attendance at school. This can be placed in their class Poss Box to contribute to their class reward.

Northmead Creative and Performing Arts High School will hold auditions for talented students in Dance, Drama, Music, Visual Arts and Circus. The auditions for Year 6 students (Year 7, 2023) and Years 8 – 11 (for placement in 2022) are now open.
Audition dates - Monday 12th – Friday 16th September 2022.
Talented students with a strong interest in Dance, Drama, Visual Arts, Music and Circus are encouraged to apply.
CAPA Audition applications are to be submitted with all documentation, portfolio, and video submissions online via a link on the school’s website, where parents can also register their interest.

We are taking preschool applications for 2023.
Children must turn 4 before 31 July 2023 to start at our preschool next year. Email the office to request an application form (pendlehill-p.school@det.nsw.edu.au). Include your address, name , the child's name and date of birth in the email.
The preschool runs on full day sessions in 2023 with children attending five day fortnight. Preschool enrolment applications must be submitted before 1 September, 2022 in order to be considered for the first round of places. There will be no fee charged for preschool in 2023.
Why is Preschool important?
Preschool helps children develop many vital skills. It particularly assists children to develop important social skills which make a huge difference to their learning when they commence school. If children come to school being able to better follow a teacher direction, sit still and concentrate in a group of children and they are ready to start learning as soon as they begin school. Our preschool program focuses on these skills as well as many other areas and prepares children for more formal learning in Kindergarten
The preschool program is a one year program for children in the year before they commence formal schooling. Children are only eligible for preschool for one year before they commence school. We are happy to discuss your child with you and offer advice if you are not sure of when they should commence preschool in 2023.

Parramatta Library is preparing to move to our new home. We look forward to welcoming you to our new state of the art Library, Customer Service Centre, and History and Visitor Information Centre at PHIVE, 5 Parramatta Square, in Spring 2022.
Please notify your school community of the following changes at Parramatta Library, as students will not be able to use the library study spaces and resources from next Monday 25 July until Monday 8 August.
From Monday 25 July, Parramatta Library will open as a pop-up, located on the ground floor, 1-3 Fitzwilliam Street, Parramatta.Monday to Thursday: 9:30am to 6pmFriday: 9:30am to 5:00pmSaturday: 9:30am to 4pmSunday: 2pm to 5pm
The pop-up library will include: - library items available through ‘click and collect’ service. - borrow up to 40 items. - place holds (reservations) of up to 10 items on your library card via the library catalogue or by phoning Parramatta Library 9806 5159.
From Monday 8 August, in addition to our pop-up library, computer use of up to 90 minutes and study spaces will be available on Level 1.
