A Word from Fr Tony Kerin

It was wonderful to see our school families at the Parish Mass last Saturday night to prayerfully begin our new school year. Now that the financial viability of St Tim’s Parish is assured, we are all looking forward to an exciting year.

Many of you are aware of the tireless efforts by our School Principal and staff to bring the awareness our hidden gem of primary education in the garden like setting of our Forest Hill campus to a wider audience. It was therefore my great pleasure to recently arrange with the Catholic Education Office Melbourne to extend the contract of Anne Maree Jones as principal and thereby assure the continuing progress of our school.

Eminent among this progress is the revision of the Emmaus Enrolment Policy to specifically preference students from St Timothy’s Primary School.

Our growing enrolment is also a positive sign and yet are still able to keep the individual attention and personal care that a smaller school affords in meeting each student’s unique needs.

The School community invites all in the parish to a Pancake Morning Tea on Tuesday February 25th at 10am. School tours will follow afterwards. The future is getting brighter for our Parish and our School.

Welcome to St Timothy's

Welcome

A warm welcome to Sam and his family ( Wesley, Suzanne and brother Benjamin) to St Timothy's. Sam joins our Year 4/5 class in Year 4 . He is passionate about comics, loves to read and has already amazed children and adults with his fantastic artistic talents.

Welcome to Foundation and Year 1

Meet our new Juniors

CyberSafety

As a new year begins we again focus on the importance of CyberSafety for our children. A reminder that the legal age for most Social Media sites is 13.  I understand that parents have the right to choose the sites their child accesses. However, Social Media can cause some fairly  serious incidents of cyber bullying. We are not able to control the problems that emerge at school as a result of children's use of Social Media outside of school.

It has also come to my attention that our children have picked up on the latest TIK TOK craze. The song choice/music is in many cases NOT SUITABLE for young children, nor the dance moves.

If your child is a part of the TIK TOK craze, they MUST NOT use their school email address to access or be wearing St Timothy's School/Sports  uniform in their dance posts.

Thank you in supporting Cyber Safe behaviours.

First Aid Training

On Wednesday our Foundation to Year 6 children all participated in a First Aid Workshop designed specifically for children. It was wonderful to see our children participating with great enthusiasm. The program is run each year by St John's Ambulance, and covered the simple to extreme in First Aid Procedures.

Ready to save lives!

Shrove ( Pancake) Tuesday

On Tuesday 25th February the children will be treated to Pancakes to mark the day before Lent begins. This year our Year 5 and 6 children and teachers have invited the parishioners to join in this special morning tea. Our children will then take our parishioners on a tour of our school.

The name Shrove comes from the old middle English word 'Shriven' meaning to go to confession to say sorry.  Lent always starts on a Wednesday, so people went to confessions on the day before. This became known as Shriven Tuesday and then Shrove Tuesday.

Pancake Day, comes from the old English custom of using up all the fattening ingredients in the house before Lent, so that people were ready to fast during Lent. The fattening ingredients that most people had in their houses in those days were eggs and milk. A very simple recipe to use up these ingredients was to combine them with some flour and make pancakes!

Ash Wednesday

St Timothy's children will be attending Ash Wednesday Mass on Wednesday February 26th at 10 am. Families are invited to join the children , teachers and parishioners at this mass. Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of the season of Lent . It last for 40 days and ends with the celebration of Easter Sunday.

Bakers Delight in Brentford Square is a great supporter of our school through the Dough Raiser Program. Each time families make a purchase at the local Bakers Delight 5% of the sale is donated back to the school.

What a great fundraiser!

School Production

Onesies & Animal Costumes

Our Production for 2020 is Go Noah. We are starting the ball rolling by already putting out requests for anyone that may have animal costumes ( e.g onesie) . They can be 'traditional' animals on the ark or a more 'Australian flavour', WE may even have some keen sewers who can design/make costumes. A variety of sizes would be fantastic.

We will also be looking for volunteers to help the children create the background scenes/props.Please let the office know if you can assist.

We are awaiting confirmation of a booking of Forest Hill Secondary so will confirm a date ASAP. ( Aiming for in last two weeks of Term 3)
