Education Week & Book Week 2022
This week, August 1-5, schools across NSW will be celebrating Education Week, themed 'Creating futures - changing lives'. The week recognises the annual achievements of students and community contributions in NSW Public schools. At WWS, we have made the decision to celebrate this event in Week 7, August 29-September 2, to coincide with Book Week.
It is our hope that combining the events will support the work commitments of our families and increase their chances of being available to attend the planned events. Further details will be released shortly regarding opportunities for the community to visit the school site during this celebration.
Congratulations
A big congratulations to Mrs Michelle Reid and Mrs Kirsten Shearer who this week have been awarded Education Week Excellence in Teaching Certificates. Both of these amazing people are very highly valued by everyone at our school and have continually shown passion and commitment to teaching WWS children for many years.
I would also like to acknowledge two members of our cleaning staff, Ron Wakelin and David Jermyn, who are also receiving awards through our local Brisbane Water Network. Ron and Dave worked tirelessly throughout the COVID lockdown period, constructing watering systems for our gardens and performing extra tasks, far beyond their normal roles. On behalf of our school community, thank you for your hard work and the critical part you play in the success and development of our school.
Athletics Carnival
The weather finally cleared, and we were very fortunate to be able to complete our school Athletics Carnival last Thursday at Adcock Park. After the disruptions of COVID in recent years, it was fantastic to be all be together again for this event on such a beautiful day.
While there were some amazing individual performances, even more pleasing was the participation and behaviour of our students – a first class performance, well done! You all did our school proud! Special thanks to Mr Waight, Mrs Watson & Miss Gibbs for the organisation of the day and to our awesome P&C for running the BBQ.
Spelling Bee
Last Friday WWS held our annual Spelling Bee. Congratulation to all students who participated, particularly our winners, Leo T-S from 3/4W and Brodie B from 5/6C. A big thankyou to Mrs Poulson for organising the event.
Kindy Open Day
Last Wednesday saw WWS host the first of two Kindergarten Open Days. Again, the weather came good, and it was so nice to be able to take our new families on a tour of the school and allow them a chance to visit our kindy rooms and see our students in action.
If you weren’t able to attend, our second Open Day will be held on Wednesday September 7th . If you know anyone living in our zone who has children starting school in 2023, please pass on our details so that we can include them in our Ready 4 School Program in Term 4.
Have a great week everyone,
Matt Barr
