Scotts Head Public School Newsletter

Term 3 | Week 4 | 11 August 2020

Principal's Column

Hello, Giinagay, Hai

Welcome to the Week 4 newsletter.

NRMA - Road Safety

The school focus is on road and bike safety around the school and village.  Please take the time to talk to your children about road and safety rules.

Parents are also reminded not to park in the no stopping zones around the pedestrian crossing.  When dropping off or picking up children parents should park so children do not need to run across the road.  Children should always access the car on the kerbside (not from the road).

Physical distancing

Physical distancing of children in schools is not required by the AHPPC guidelines.

Physical distancing requirements remain in place for adults i.e. keeping a 1.5m distance.

Schools should ensure school pick up and drop off arrangements enable parents to physically distance from one another and from staff.

Guidance for community use and visitors to the school

Non-essential adults are still not permitted on school grounds or at school events which includes next week’s school carnival and Indonesian Day celebrations.

This includes parents and carers except for face-to-face parent/teacher meetings that are essential (e.g. to discuss disciplinary or other welfare matters).

Please if you have any concerns regarding your children contact the classroom teacher via Class Dojo or the office to organise a phone catch up or update.

External Visitors to School Site Form

All visitors to the school during school hours are required to sign a form at the office. This is a NSW Department of Education form and it is required for contact tracing, if required. This form acts as evidence that visitors are aware of and will abide by their obligations to comply with the health advice of the day, including hygiene and distancing requirements.

The form lists a number of conditions to being onsite as well as an acknowledgment of the following:

  • I am well and have no signs or symptoms.
  • I confirm that I have not been in Victoria in the last 14 days.
  • I have provided my personal contact information to the school so I can be contacted where appropriate.
  • I have reviewed the most recent AHPPC Guidelines and NSW Health advice on COVI-19 and can confirm that I can comply with the requirements outlined (where relevant).
  • I understand the current requirements and directions in place for hygiene and physical distancing within NSW as per NSW Public Health Orders.
  • I confirm I have reviewed the safety and hygiene measures in place at the school and I agree to follow and implement these requirements.

This includes ALL parents/carers picking up or dropping off their child, dropping off lunch or a water bottle etc.

For late arrivals we ask parents to please call us to advise the reason they are late, then they can drop their child off to come straight to the office for a late note.

Thanks to everyone for keeping us all safe. Let’s keep it up.

Thanks, yaarri yaraang, terima kasih.

Bu Gillian

Premier's Debating Challenge

On Wednesday 5th August 4 year six students (Brylee, Zaki, Roman and Ella) went to debate at Urunga Public School and successfully made it there and back, thanks to our wonderful 3/4 teacher Pak Chris

The debate was neck and neck but the ‘Scotts Head Articulators’ just managed to pull it off. The Urunga team did very well and the adjudicator gave lots of helpful information!

We are very excited to announce that the ‘Scotts Head Silver Tongues’ will be going head to head on a video debate against Stuarts Point Public School.

After the video debate both teams will be sent off to Mullaway Public School.

Good Luck to both of the teams!

‘Scotts Head Silver Tongues' team members; 1st speaker; Ayrielle; 2nd speaker Charlotte; 3rd speaker; Aiken

‘Scotts Head Articulators’ team members; 1st speaker; Brylee, 2nd speaker; Ella, 3rd speaker; Zaki, and the ideas person; Roman

Book Fair and Book Parade – Week 6 Friday 28 August

To celebrate Book Week (22-28 August 2020) we will be holding our annual Book Fair this year but it will be much different to previous years. Due to the current Covid-19 restrictions we are unable to have non-essential parents/carers on site. This year we will be setting up the Book Fair in the LLLC and students will fill out wish lists of the books that they like. We are aiming to take lots of photos so parents/carers don’t feel like they missed out!

We will also be holding a Book Parade where students (and staff!) dress up as their favourite book character.

Mobile Dental Van

The Mid North Coast Local Health District Primary School Mobile Dental Program is back up and running at our school this term. The mobile dental van will be here at SHPS for a few more weeks but it’s not too late for your child to be seen. Please have your consent form to the office by Friday 21 August. If you’d like a consent form, please see the office.

Thursday is Library Day

Every student will have the opportunity to go to the library each Thursday. Please make sure your child has a library bag and brings it to school each Thursday.

School Absences

Students are asked to stay at home if unwell.  If your child is unwell at school, they will be sent home. Parents/carers need to either ring, email, use our Skoolbag app or send a note on the student's return to let the school know why their child is not at school.  The school needs to be notified every time a child is absent from school.

If a student is unwell for 3 days the child must obtain a medical certificate which should be forwarded to the school on the student's return.

With the current Covid-19 situation, if a child is unwell they should attend a medical practice early in case a Covid test is required.  Students are unable to come back to school until results have been received.  This can be up to 3 days.
