Zone Swimming
On Tuesday a large contingent of CVPS swimmers represented our school at the Landsdowne PSSA Zone Swimming Carnival at Fairfield Swimming Centre. Representing the school at this level of competition is acknowledgement of the hard work and ability of our swimmers; congratulations on this great achievement boys and girls. Several of our team will now go on to represent their school and zone at the South Western Sydney Region Swimming Championships at Campbelltown on Tuesday 12 March; I’m sure you all join me in wishing Andrew Nguyen, Chloe Ton, Collin Trang, Ryan Luu and Tiffany Cheng the very best of luck. Go Canley! Thank you to Miss Ton, Mr Papas and Mr Chand for their work with our swimming team, we’re very fortunate to have such committed staff at CVPS.
3rd Party Providers
Recently a note was sent home entitled ‘Ongoing Permission Note’. The third party site used by Canley Vale PS is called ‘SENTRAL’ and is used to store the following student information such as emergency contact details, wellbeing information, assessment and reporting and daily roll-marking. SENTRAL does not provide this information to anyone else, nor is it accessible to anyone else. Only CVPS staff have access to this information. SENTRAL is used by thousands of schools across Australia due to its easy access, range of functions and security. Rest assured that we would not use a service that jeopardised the safety, security or confidentiality of our students or their families. If you have ticked ‘no’ on the permission note I would ask that you reconsider your option so that your child’s information be stored on SENTRAL. If you have any questions whatsoever regarding SENTRAL please feel free to contact myself or a member of the school executive.
SRC Induction
On Thursday our Student Representative Council (SRC) representatives, School Captains and Vice Captains, and Sporting House Captains and Vice Captains received their leadership badges at a special induction ceremony. Attended by Director Educational Leadership Fairfield Network Mr Scott Davidson, longtime CVPS supporter and Canley Vale business man Mr Tony Fornasier and P&C President Mrs Debra Holdsworth, the ceremony was a great way to acknowledge our school leaders as they commence their roles for 2019. A special morning tea for the students and their parents was held in the staffroom following the assembly. Thank you to all staff, students and parents who attended and a special thank you to Mrs Riley and Miss Falcone for the amazing work they do with our SRC.
Lunch With a Copper
On Wednesday Constable Matt Green (Youth Liaison Officer from Fairfield City Police Area Command) and Quynh Truong (Community Liaison Officer) spent lunchtime in the playground as part of the ‘Lunch With a Copper’ initiative. The students had some great questions for our visitors, both Constable Green and Mrs Truong commenting on how respectful, courteous and welcoming the students were; great work boys and girls. Thank you to Constable Green and Mrs Truong for spending lunch with us.
Parent/Teacher/Student Interviews
Parent/Teacher/Student interviews will be held during Weeks 10 and 11 of this term. Teachers are in the process of setting up their availability, with each teacher providing as many interview sessions as there are students in their class. Interviews will again be booked online via www.schoolinterviews.com.au. Translators will be available and our CLO’s will again run a kiosk in the office to assist parents to book a time, should they require support to do so. We urge all parents to take advantage of this opportunity to discuss their child’s progress with his or her teacher; information will be available early in Week 8.
Selective Schools Test
The Selective High Schools Test for entry in Year 7 2019 will be held at Fairfield High School on Thursday 14 September, commencing at 9:00am. If your child has registered to sit this test please ensure that he or she is at the venue punctually. A reminder that parents are required to provide transport to and from the test centre. Wishing all students sitting the test the very best of luck.
Harmony Week
2019 signifies the 20th anniversary of Harmony Day. This year the event will be renamed Harmony Week to recognise diversity and inclusion activities that take place during the entire week. Harmony Week will include 21 March, which is the United Nations International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination. Since 1999, more than 77,000 Harmony Week events have been held in childcare centres, schools, community groups, churches, businesses and federal, state and local government agencies across Australia. It is a time to celebrate Australian multiculturalism, and the successful integration of migrants into our community. Australia is one of the most successful multicultural countries in the world and we should celebrate this and work to maintain it. Harmony Week is about inclusiveness, respect and belonging for all Australians, regardless of cultural or linguistic background, united by a set of core Australian values. We will celebrate Harmony Week on Thursday 21 March (Week 8) at CVPS. Further details will be forthcoming however it’s safe to start getting your orange clothing ready! For more information regarding Harmony Day please visit www.harmony.gov.au.
