Deputy Principal's Message

Dear Parents, Carers and Community

Term 3 is traditionally a busy time of the year as we prepare for key events and activities. With so much happening in and around the school in the coming weeks, it is important that all families read the newsletter and check school communication via SkoolBag app to keep up to date. This assists us greatly and ensures that you are informed of what’s happening around the school.

Book Week

Always a highlight of the school calendar, we send a big thank you to our Library Officer, Mrs Leanne Daniels, for her organisation and planning for Book Week. It was wonderful to have so many friends and family members at our annual parade this morning. The sun was shining, and I was blown away by the range of book characters seen across the classes, with many joining in the ‘topsy turvey’ theme. Scroll down to see a snapshot of the amazing creativity of our student costumes, this year.

We were fortunate this week to have Northam based Author/Illustrator Katie Stewart visit our school. Katie provided students with an engaging and interesting discussion about her books and taught the children some new drawing techniques. She also introduced us to her new motto “Be Yourself, and if you can’t be yourself, Be a Wombat”, which the children loved.

Athletics Carnival

As you would be aware from our post on the SkoolBag app, the House Athletics Carnival is confirmed for Friday 2 September and will be held just up the road at Deanmore Square Reserve. The carnival program is being finalised and will be sent via SkoolBag, once all details are confirmed. We look forward to the new location for our carnival and also hope to have time for a few parent races and events. See you there!

Speak Up Preliminary Finals

Congratulations to Harry Lawson, Room 12 on being selected to represent our school at the next stage of the Speak Up competition. His speech on ‘Sharks’ was engaging and captivating for the judges and audience, earning him a spot in the preliminary finals. This is an outstanding achievement, with Harry being the first ever Scarborough student to advance to this stage. All the best, Harry. We are proud of you.

Building for our Future: Update 2

It is an exciting time for Scarborough Primary, as our school site is being adapted to welcome new families and provide for the growth in student numbers. Over the past week you will have noticed that the fences are up, and Devlyn Construction will shortly commence Stage 1a (New Block) at our school. Over the next few weeks, the sports and gardeners’ sheds will be demolished with their contents being stored in the sea container at the fence line.

  • Stage 1a the new two storey block is due for completion 5 July 2023
  • Stage 1b (under cover area and Room 8 roof): Due to start 16 December 2022 and to be completed no later than 10 February 2023. This section is being completed over the summer holidays to ensure the site is vacant for any removal of asbestos
  • Students will move into the new block at the conclusion of stage 1 (estimated to be the start of Term 3 2023
  • Stage 2 (Car Park, Room 1, Sheds): Due to commence approximately 2 weeks after completion of Stage 1 with completion estimated to be around October/November 2023.
  • Fortnightly meetings will be held between the construction company, the school, the architects, and other departmental stakeholders to outline progress and specific upcoming works. This information will be passed on where appropriate through Updates on the SkoolBag App and the newsletter. Devlyn Construction will do letterbox drops to residents in the immediate surrounds to keep them updated

If you have any queries about this exciting project, please don’t hesitate to call or email Sarah.Dawson@education.wa.edu.au.

Farewell Miss Clark

Finally, on behalf of the school community, I would like to farewell Miss Annie Clark who leaves us today to go on Parental Leave. Annie has been a well-loved teacher at Scarborough for the past nine years, and we wish her all the best on her parenting journey.

As always, if you have any queries, please don’t hesitate to call or email Sarah or you can contact me on christina.vanmaanen@education.wa.edu.au.

Thank you for your ongoing support.

Just a reminder that the lost and found locker, located near the water foundation in the undercover area, is overflowing! Please have a look if you are missing a school jumper or hat. If these items are not collected by the end of Term 3, they will be donated to our Uniform Shop.

The next P&C meeting has been changed to this coming Tuesday 30th August at 6:30 pm in the school library,  please come along and join the fantastic P&C.

CANTEEN

We are always looking for canteen volunteers. So, if you or anyone in your immediate family (aunts, uncles, grandparents etc) have any Friday mornings available, Laura would love some assistance in the SPS canteen.

Helping out in Canteen means that you come in and support Laura for 2 hours, usually between 10-12 pm or 11-1 pm; whatever works for you! Duties consist of washing dishes, prepping pizzas, handing out lunches, etc.

E-mail us at the P&C or speak to Laura on Fridays in the canteen if you are keen to help.

Please also note that all canteen orders need to be placed via QuickCliq prior to 8.30 am on Friday. Cash is not accepted.

ENTERTAINMENT BOOK

We continue to fundraise through the Entertainment Book. When you purchase the Entertainment Book, a portion will go to the P&C.

Order your membership here https://www.entertainment.com.au/orderbooks/86y129

CONTAINERS FOR CHANGE
