The Fathering Project
The Fathering Project was founded in 2013, by Professor Bruce Robinson in Western Australia, with the aim of supporting fathers, and father figures, to be the best parent they can be so their children can thrive. The Fathering Project educates, connects and mobilises fathers and families to create brighter futures for children. They do this with research-based prevention and early intervention programs and resources that engage, inform, inspire, equip and support fathers, families, schools, corporates and community-based organisations. The Fathering Project helps dads to be the best dads they can be, for themselves, their children and their families.
Our purpose for partnering with the Fathering Project is to strengthen father-child relationships and build stronger connections between families, schools and communities. Children with engaged fathers have better academic, social and emotional outcomes, and Dads benefit from being part of a supportive peer-to-peer environment that improves confidence, skills and commitment. Research shows that schools that specifically target fathers will see better outcomes for students.
When fathers participate in school activities, meetings and events, children enjoy school more, are less likely to have behaviour issues and are more likely to participate in extracurricular activities. Children are also more likely to engage more in school and perform better academically.
We are thrilled to be able to facilitate this at Hammondville Public School, under the passionate eye of our Assistant Principal, Mr Mark Betts.
