Welcome to Week 4, Term 2. Good afternoon and we hope this Newsletter finds you safe and well.
We are now almost at the halfway point for Term 3, and what an exciting past 2 weeks we have had here at Wyong Public School. Last week we celebrated Education Week, with the theme ‘Learning Together’ which is a rather appropriate title given the collaborative learning style we have embraced this year. Whilst the general performances and parental involvement that usually enhances Education Week could not go ahead due to the current circumstances, it was still a fun and exciting time for the students as they visited each other’s learning environments and took part in some peer learning opportunities. Thanks to Mrs Stretton for organising this year’s activities.
Last Friday, despite the less than perfect weather, Wyong held its annual Athletics Carnival at Mingara. Whilst it was a cold, dreary day it could not dampen Wyong’s spirits. The students had lots of fun competing in the track, and cheering on their houses in the grandstand. A sausage sizzle ran by the school canteen was a welcome warm treat as well. Everyone tried their best and was for the most part well behaved. Thanks again to the parents for respecting the restrictions in place and not coming to the grounds on the day. Rest assured the students were kept warm and dry as much as possible and much fun was had, please see some pictures throughout the newsletter. Thanks to Mrs Brechney and Mr Mac for all their tireless work organising this year’s sporting events. Follow up events (field) will take place at school over the coming weeks for primary students, there is no Area and State Carnival this year.
Last week we as a school marked National Tree Day, and in doing so we gratefully received some beautiful native trees from our good friends at Brian Hilton Motor Group in conjunction with Toyota, to plant within our school grounds. I am sure that these, with some nurturing will grow into some lovely additions to our wonderful natural school environment.
As we approach September, and given the current circumstances it is unfortunate that there will be no Father’s Day breakfast or stall permitted to be held on site. However, our wonderful P&C have proposed the idea of an online, virtual stall as a way to still buy Dad or that someone special in your life a little something to show your appreciation. Details regarding this will be communicated as soon as possible through the Skoolbag and Facebook channels.
Sadly, with the current restrictions in place, the Stage 3 Broken Bay Camp has had to be cancelled. I know how very disappointing this must be to students and parents but unfortunately it was beyond our control. Those in Year 5 this year have been given the opportunity to keep their monies on file for next year’s Canberra Camp, scheduled to take place in April 2021. If your child is in Year 6 this year, or will not be attending the Canberra Camp next year, a full refund is also offered. Please direct any queries to the front office.
Lastly, the maintenance being done around the school is still undergoing, the wet weather certainly hasn’t helped the progress. The front gates are still inaccessible at the moment and entry points’ exit points remain the same. Entry is via either the top pedestrian gate adjacent to the SaCC Centre or the bottom pedestrian gate near the cricket nets and bus stop. However, through school hours (9:15 am to 2:45 pm) entry/exit to the school will only be via the top gate near the SaCc Centre, the bottom gate will remain locked until home time. Please see the notice on the SkoolBag app for a map to clarify this if unsure. Thank you once more for your co-operation and support.
