Dear Parents/Carers,
Term 4
Welcome back to Term 4. We are already in Week 2 and so many things have happened and many more events in the planning for the next 8 school weeks. Please take a moment to look at the special calendar of the whole term that has been included in this newsletter. It might be a good idea to put it on your fridge to keep up with all the events. I have ensured all students will take home a hard copy of the calendar as well.
Community Day
Our Community Day held on 21 September, last term, was a huge success. We thank all our community sponsors for their generous donations of cash and prizes and to all our families and friends who joined us on the day. A total profit of $26 518 was raised. We will use this money to purchase 30 laptops to be used in the school library for lessons. All classes, Kindergarten to Year 6, use the library and will benefit from the new technology. Our preschool students also visit the library each fortnight and once they reach kindergarten they will benefit from the use of the laptops. A big thank you to all members of our CVPS community for your generosity.
Excursions and Swim School
Year 6 enjoyed their time at the Great Aussie Bush Camp last week and have made many memories with their classmates that will last a lifetime. We have many other excursions planned for all grades before the end of term including the Year 5 excursion to Canberra in Week 5. Kinder are off on their first excursion to the farm on Friday and I am sure they will have a great time.
Swim school will start in Week 5 and conclude in Week 6. We have over 300 students involved in this very special activity. I congratulate the parents and carers who have given permission for their child or children to participate in this extremely important life skill. More details about session times and what students need to bring each day will be sent home soon.
2023 Preschool Children have Playdates
Last week we started to welcome our new preschool enrolments for 2023 for planned playdates. We have held five playdates and still have three more to go. These playdates are for our new children and their parents to get to know the environment and also for parents to talk with the preschool educators about their child and ask any questions that they may have about their child starting in 2023.
Kindergarten Orientation and 2023 Enrolment
Next Monday we start our Kindergarten Orientation program. This will run over four Monday mornings. Details of location and times have been sent to all families who have completed the enrolment process. We do not want any of our new Kindergarten students to miss out on these valuable sessions where they get to meet other students and see the classroom environment. These orientation sessions are important for parents and carers so they can hear information about starting school and ask any questions they may have about starting at Canley Vale.
If you have not enrolled your child in Kindergarten please contact the school office ASAP on 9724 1555 or visit the school to complete the enrolment form.
Selective High School Applications 2024
Applications are now open online from 18 October 2022 for entry into Year 7 at a Selective High School in 2024. More details have been given to Year 5 students. Further information for parents and carers can be obtained online:
The Selective High School Placement Test is expected to be held on 4 May 2023.
On Thursday 20 October at 1:50pm we will be holding a Parent Kiosk to assist parents in completing the application process online. Please come along to the flagpole area near the Canley Vale Rd entrance if you wish to apply for your child and would like some assistance with the online application form.
Tell Them From Me (TTFM) Survey and 2022 CVPS Parent Evaluation survey
We currently have two surveys available for parents and carers to provide feedback to our school.
The Tell Them From Me survey is open for parents and carers to participate. The survey asks parents and carers questions about different factors that are known to impact student wellbeing and engagement.
The survey is conducted entirely online on smartphones, iPads, tablets, laptops or computers. The survey will typically take 10 minutes or less to complete and is completely confidential. The survey can be opened in many languages. The parent TTFM survey will close on 4 November. Although participating in the survey is entirely voluntary, your responses are very much appreciated. You can access the survey:
http://nsw.tellthemfromme.com/cvps97241555
We are also asking parents and carers to complete a 2022 Parent Evaluation survey so that we can plan for 2023 using your feedback. It can be completed online using smartphones, tablets or computers and we would really appreciate your opinions and responses. You can access this survey:

Thank you to the parents who have completed the TTFM survey and or the 2022 Parent Evaluation survey. We have had some Year 6 student leaders at the gates of a morning and afternoon with iPads asking parents to participate this week. If you can spare a few moments by clicking on the links above or completing the survey at school with the Year 6 students, we would really appreciate it.
World Teachers' Day - Australia
On Friday 28 October World Teachers’ Day is celebrated across Australia. I am sure the community joins me in wishing all our teaching staff a very happy World Teachers’ Day. We are extremely lucky to have dedicated and enthusiastic teachers at our school and they are so happy to have had a full year at school with your children.
On Wednesday 2 November our CLOs are organising a special lunch for our teachers. Please see the flyer attached to the newsletter for more information.
Walk and Talk with the Principal
Walk and Talk is back! I would love for parents, carers, grandparents, other family members and friends to come along and join the Community Liaison Officers and myself as we go for a walk around Adams Park on a Friday morning. Once you drop off your little ones meet us at 8:55am at the front of the school and after our walk join us for a cup of tea or coffee or a cool drink. We usually walk for half an hour. The idea of the walk is to chat and ask me questions that you may have about our school. I look forward to seeing some walkers on Friday morning.
Kind regards,
Margaret Creagh
Principal
