Ryde School Spectacular

Congratulations Choir

Congratulations to our school choir on the wonderful performance at the Sydney Opera House last night. Our choir participated as part of the combined primary school choir from the Ryde area network.  A special congratulations is extended to Bella for being part of the string ensemble and performing on stage.

Thank you to Miss Alice Mee for the time and commitment of preparing our students for the event. Our students were praised for their confidence, behaviour and representing Melrose Park PS. Our families who were part of the capacity audience were impressed with the quality and enthusiasm of the choir and the items presented on stage.  Our wonderful night was enjoyed by all.

Anniversary Celebrations

Memories from an ex student

My name is Peter Marriott. I attended MPPS from Kindergarten in 1959 to Grade 6 in 1965.

My education was started at MPPS and my time at this school was an excellent grounding for my secondary education at Marsden High (one year) and then in South Australia in Adelaide and Whyalla. I completed my tertiary education in Adelaide (studying Geology) and Whyalla (completing B. App Sc in Secondary Metallurgy).

My parents were on P&C committee – my dad was John Marriott - Treasurer for a number of years. I can remember the effort taken by the P&C to organize fund raising events such as annual fetes and fancy dress competitions.

Teachers – Mrs Bouveller, Miss Hughes, Mr Brennan - Principal, Mrs Mitchell – Librarian, Mr Crawley, Mr Parsons

Class mates I can remember were: Hodges twins, Chris Fortescue, David Mitchell, Barry O’Grady, Geoff Foster, Gay Hughes, Margaret Evans, Glen Rogers, Bruce Jamieson, Evelyn Feiffer, Helen Erskine, Kerry Rodgers.

I now live in Perth W.A. and am retired now after working as a Metallurgist for BHP in Whyalla Steelworks in S. A. (15 years) and in Technical Marketing in Rio Tinto Iron Ore in W.A. for 27 years.

I wish the organizing committee every success in celebrating the school’s 77th Anniversary.
